Post how your dream goes. You have to wake-up sometime though.
Mine:
I open my eyes. There is ringing in my ears. My sight is blurred. Everything starts to clear up though. I hear gunfire. A shell lands in the distance. I get up. A man runs up to me. âJohnny! Youâre alive!!â
âWho are you?â
âWhat, did you get amnesia? That explosion was pretty big. Iâm your childhood friend, Phil!â
âSo youâre telling me you donât remember anything?â Phil asked.
âNo. Nothing, not even my name.â
âYou should see a doctor about that.â
âIâll be fine.â I say.
I hear an announcement over the intercom: âSoldiers move it! We have reason to believe the rebels are about to attack Westfield Public Hospital. GO GO GO!!!â
As we ride towards the hospital, I ask Phil what this war is about.
You see in 2104, the Almighty Supreme Rulers of This Land passed the Bill of Imagination, outlawing it. Since then, these stupid people have been rebelling, saying that Imagination is important! and that kind of sh**.
What do you think about it? I ask
Me? I donât care. I got a wife and two kids, I donât need to worry about imagination. I only do this job for the pay.
We arrive at the hospital. EVERYBODY OUT!!! screams the driver. After we get out, he turns the truck around and leaves, along with the other trucks.
The van suddenly skids out of control and flips. After a minute of no movement, we get the command to approach. Me and Phil, being at the front, get there first. I open the back doors of the van. Inside, a lady is lying there, bleeding. I notice she is pregnant. A man who appears to be her husband is dead, sitting at the wheel with a bullet through his skull. The lady opens her eyes and looks at me. I need medical helpâ I shout in my com system.
A corporal walks up. What is it private?
I show him the woman. I then go up to her and try to help her. I hear a bang, and the womans skull explodes. My mask blocks the gore from hitting me, but I canât see too well. I quickly wipe it off and spin around. The corporal is putting his pistol back in its holster. I stare up at him. He looks at his men. The rebels did this. he says.
As the corporal walks away, I run up to him. Why did you do that???
He turns. You must be new here.
He chuckles and walks off. I approach Phil. Why did he do that? That lady didnât deserve to die.
He looks at me. What are you talking about? The rebels did that. Didnât you see the explosion?
I turn back. Several meters behind the van is a large crater I hadnât noticed before. I approach it. It definitely was caused by an explosion⦠but I never heard one. And I know we were the ones who had killed those people, not them. I got in the truck and went back to base. I fell asleep.
Nightmares. The pregnant lady staring up at me, begging me to save her with her eyes.
I awoke, screaming. Nobody heard me. That lady, why did he kill her? Why? And then blame it on the rebels? I got out of my bed and left the tent. It was cool out, around midnight. I walked to the edge of the base and stood on a cliff, staring out at the ocean, feeling the wind blow. Hey. someone said.
I turned around. Someone had apparently woken up too. They stood next to me and stared out at the ocean as well. You had a dream about her, huh? The lady in the van.
Yeah. How did you know?
I saw her too. So did all the others. But I havenât been brainwashed like them. You and I both know the rebels didnât do anything.
Who are these rebels anyways? I asked. Iâve never seen them.
They exist. They just donât do half the things their blamed for. Itâs to boost public support for the Rulers.
Why do the other soldiers believe that the rebels did it?
Because, thatâs all theyâve ever known as evil. The rebels. If a car gets stolen, its the rebels. Someone gets murdered, the rebels did it.
Yes, but they saw the colonel do it. It wasnât like a random murder.
True. But like I said, they hate the rebels to the point of believing anything that is anti-rebel. Even if it is obvious the rebels did nothing, they donât care. It helps fuel their anger. Look, we should head back to base. Theyâll be wondering where we went.
We both head back. As I lie in bed, I wonder about all the man had told me. I realized I hadnât even gotten his name.
The next morning, we get another mission on the intercom. Apparently, some rebels are holding people hostage in a bank. I notice Phil isnât there with me. We approach the bank carefully. Recon shows there are 5 rebels, each with an ak-47.
I raise my rifle, and put a target in my sights. So do four other men. We all lie there, waiting for the order. Suddenly, a newer private gets an itchy trigger finger and pulls the trigger. One of the rebels falls. The others immediately open fire. All four of us fire, killing them, but there are definitely civilian casualties. We all rush towards the bank.
I turn back around. The corporal fires a dart into my neck. I fall over. Everything starts to go black. Phil is standing over me, watching. Itâs too bad Johnny. You would have made a good soldier.
Just as him and another soldier lift me up, everything goes completely black.
I wake up. Iâm in a cell. I look around. A small cot. A toilet. Thats about it. I notice a small food tray that has been lying there for probably awhile. A small piece of food, a glass of water, and a pill. A note says that if I donât take the pill, I will be killed. I laugh and toss the pill out the cell. Immediately, a guard walks up. He picks up my pill and hands it to me. Swallow it. Or Iâll shoot you.
He aims his rifle at me. I put it in my mouth and add water. I swallow. Open your mouth. he says.
I do. There is no more pill. He walks off. I sneak over to the toilet and try to gag myself. However, for some reason, I canât. I feel tired all of the sudden. I lie down on my cot.
I pick up my tray. Swallow the pill in front of the guard. I still havenât been able to gag myself. As I lie on my cot eating, I hear yelling. Somebody shouts, Theyâve breached the main wall!
The guards immediately all rush outside. I begin to talk to Sammy, the girl in the cell next to me. What do you thinks going on? I ask.
She looks at me, smiling. I think the rebels are attacking! she says.
A loud explosion. Several armed men walk in. They begin unlocking the cells. Cries of joy from the prisoners. When they reach my cell, after unlocking it, they take out a needle and inject it into me. What was that? I ask.
Its the antidote. When you first got here, they gave you a type of poison that kills in 24 hours. Those pills fight the poison, but only while your taking them. The moment you stop, you die.
I realize its a good thing I didnât gag them out. We all walk out to several black vans. The rebels load us in while firing at the remaining guards.
As we ride off, I sit there realizing Iâm free. Yeah! I shout, joining in with the other cheers.
Suddenly, the van next to us explodes into a ball of flame. Up ahead, a tank and a squad of soldiers appears from behind a hill. Stop the vehicle IMMEDIATELY! shouts a man. I realize itâs the corporal. The rebel driver just speeds up. Hang on. he says.
The tank fires around at our van. The driver swerves to avoid it, and barely does. However, it impacts right behind the van.
(Several minutes later.)
I open my eyes. I look out the windshield. The soldiers are slowly approaching. I look around the van. Everybody else is dead. I grab a rifle and hop out. I look at the other vans. Some flipped over like ours, others just burning carcasses. Some other rebels are also out of the vans. I wave my arms to get their attention. The soldiers havenât noticed us, and I donât want to be the one to let them know people are still alive.
The rebels use their hands to indicate that they will attack first. Once they do, I am to take a bomb that is supposedly in the van I was in and attempt to blow up the tank. I crawl back into the van. Bomb bomb, where is the bomb? I find it underneath Sammy. I look at her. She was my only real friend. I shut her eyes and leave the van. Iâm going to kill those SOBs. I mutter under my breath.
The soldiers are not 10 meters away. The rebels lean out of cover and begin firing. The soldiers attempt to take cover, but several are mowed down. The tank begins to aim at the van. I begin to run toward it, shooting a soldier that leaps in my way. By the time Iâve reached it, Iâve killed six more and been shot in the left arm. But Iâll be ok. I take the bomb and begin to arm it. I hear a voice. Johnny?
