Does your school donate money to haiti? if not try a program called change for a change in haiti. what you do is the grades bring in change and whatever grade has the most change wins something. Doing this my school raised over $1,000 for haiti
My school's doing the same thing, we bubbled at $3,000 and then stopped the program a few days back. I thought it was a pleasing effort, but I think what schools give out wont be anything compared to the millions outpouring from the international community [businesses, mostly]
My school's raising money for Haiti through a non-school uniform day before the end of school which will probably raise about £1000 (not sure how much that is in dollars).
I don't really think schools should take part in charity, there are so many companies and ludicrously rich celebrities that should be more than happy to donate a million dollars to charity, the amount gained from charitable events at school is ridiculously small.
My school is always collecting for all kinds of charities, so naturally, Haiti is no exception, but since we are constantly bombarded with the school asking for donations, no one really pays attention to it.
My old middle school (which had the awkward setting of being a rather low funded school in a richish town) was always bombarded with all sorts of "HELP TEH ANIMLZ" things that nobody really ever cared about something in my school (Hurricanes, as an example).
I then went to high school in a diff. location and moved to Virginia, these schools think a bit better and only really pull out big donation efforts for, well, big things. Then again, my 3,000 vs. Google's 1 Million is ... eh (I understand there are lots of schools, but the amount put in my celebrities and stuff really outweighs it all)
Then again, its always a nice thought -- I guess I still feel kinda nice for dropping in my quarters for a week and figuring I gave some dude f00dz. (Then again, I might have been feeding some ****heads wallet :S)
