Lady gaga

No. Just no.

Led Zeppelin

Most definitely win.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

They do have some epic ballads, which isn't necessarily a bad thing on a roadtrip.

Metallica

I saw them live two years ago, and I was surprised how good a night it was, seeing as I tend to stay away from metal bands. That said, not sure it'll make the final cut. I have precious little memory left on my ipod.

Mabey something that would make you go to sleep, thats what I do.

Since I'll be the one doing the driving, that won't really be an option.

Neil Young

I like his stuff a lot actually, but I don't think it's great roadtrip music to be brutally honest.

Know what's great? Get a ton of stuff from when you were a kid. I grew up in the 90's, so last summer, when we drove all around western United States I just played a ton of old pop songs. And we all sang along. And it was glorious.

Thing is, my gf grew up in the 80s, and has vastly different tastes in that department. There's only so much Venga Boys she'd be willing to tolerate.

Well Pink Floyd is always good.

Yes.

Nightwish too.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I'd also listen to a bit of Muse

A massively overated stadium band in my opinion.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, too.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic is quality, but they kind of went downhill after that. Suggestion duly noted though.

Really, anything you can sing along to. I like singing while driving, even if I don't like the song. For instance, I'm not a huge Styx fan, but when Come Sail Away comes on the radio (yes I still listen to the radio... my car doesn't have a cd player or mp3 jack) I can't help myself. Gogol Bordello is great driving music as well. I don't know how well singing out loud will go over if there are other people in the car, however.

This isn't really what I like, but judging from your reactions...
AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, stuff like that.
'Specially Highway to Hell. =D

Long, not too fast ballads are good. Super fast songs aren't good because they are distracting.

Annoying songs aren't good either.

AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, stuff like that.

Them, with a few other songs from various artists.

i find sing-a-long songs the best. not little kids songs, but songs everyone will know the words to and you can all sing a long. like bon jovi.

Though I could go for a little Lady Gaga every now and again.

Hey man, I could too. Just not her music.

songs everyone will know the words to and you can all sing a long

Mhm, no. Unless you're taking a road trip with a bunch of really good singers, sing-a-long songs are a baaaad idea.

like bon jovi.

Not everyone knows all the words to every Bon Jovi song. Unless that's what you do in your spare time...

I think of Neil Young for a roadtrippin', since being the Canadian boy that I am, I couldn't think of anything more fitting more fitting for traversing this Great White North than with songs like "Mr. Soul", "Harvest", "See the Sky About to Rain", and "Cowgirl in the Sand". Save for maybe the music of The Band as well.

I also feel I should justify why I listed The Grateful Dead in my previous post. Mainly because many of their long-running jam tracks are just relaxing, but listening to their quicker, more concise stuff just makes me feel like rippin' it down that freeway!

something you sing along to. But not rap. Rap vibrates through the ground and annoys other drivers. I would probably say classic rock. Led Zeplinn

Apparently not. Maybe one D-Block song I could stand listening to in a car, but not a whole album.

If I wasn't an Atheist, I'd thank God for that.

something you sing along to.

Led Zeplinn

How many Led Zeppelin songs have lyrics clear enough to memorize? :P

For me good roadtrip music is any band that has long, relaxing songs. I usually listen to jam bands like Phish or Grateful Dead. Sometimes I listen to the Beatles White Album, dunno why, it is just good traveling music.

I usually try to avoid those because they make me impatient, and sometimes they put me to sleep. For most of you, the sleep part would be a good thing, but since I'm usually the one driving, it could get hazardous. :P
