Are there any real life examples of merits that anyone wants to share? I've scoured the comments section of the games in search of merit examples for a ridiculously long amount of time, and only found page after page of spam.

One of the purposes of Merits is to set examples for other posters. This is a somewhat improbable idea, as personally, I've never even seen an actual Merit, and I'd rather not spend another half hour searching through comments filled with spam.

If you find a noteworthy Merit, or have previously earned a Merit, please feel free to post it.

Back to subject though, you know so this dosen't get locked.
Um, I think only people that have got one could tell you what you need to put into it.

Lol, ThomasTheDragon, that's pretty good. How about Tharos the Tank Engine?

I think only people that have got one could tell you what you need to put into it.

But your profile says you have a merit. So have at it!

I think getting a merit is really just a combination of luck and having a moderator like what you've written. And I think tastes vary from mod to mod. I certainly know that if I were a mod I would be giving merits very differently.

*cracks knuckles* allright... here we go! =D

Comments could be like messages, but messages do not equal private messages! RRRAAAARRR!!

Easy there... =D what I meant was... the comments made to a game can be read by the developer and a lot of them are directed towards him/her and provide him/her with feedback on the game, thus... being 'rivate messages'!
But if you think 'rivate messages' are only those send to the developer through a secured channel, ok... agreed on that, but it wasn't meant as litterally as I wanted it to be!

Sometimes there's something in the game you want to point out that obviously the developers know is there but you think not many gamers will notice.

The problem arising with that is... most gamers do not look past the first few comments to the game, so they will not likely see the points you point out to them... only the ones that click 'view all comments' will notice them and they are few I think! :S

Also sometimes people are just responding to other comments and don't wanna do it on their profile.

Those people are just lazy... leave 'em be... pity for them!

You keep talking in absolutes! "The whole purpose of reviewing a game stays the same allover..." Maybe you're the one who needs to be more open minded. There are lots of reasons to review a game!
Look, if everyone's just gonna ignore everything I've said, fine. Just fine.

Hey! I'm open minded enough for that... I personally just feel the reviews that I write are at first intended for the developer to read and get feedback on his/her game! But they also (as I like to think) have a purpose for other gamers to read about what I think of the game and the flaws (if any present in the game) they can learn from or look out for...
So that's my reason for writing a review on a game and you should respect that... if someone wants to write a review with another purpose, that's his/her choice and I will always respect that too! I might not agree or like it, but I'll always respect it!

Lol, ThomasTheDragon, that's pretty good. How about Tharos the Tank Engine?

LOL Geeeezzzz... you're good! *grasping breath* That made me get a tummy ache!

Agreed, someone's (a mod in this matter) character is a huge factor that counts for getting a merit or not for a review...
but it doesn't mean you should give up on writing the reviews, since the purpose (is that better? LOL) of the reviews is providing feedback to the developer... and ok... also to provide insight to other gamers about the game and what you think of it!

There... I adjusted my argumenting in your favour Tharos!

You know, I understand that I have a minority viewpoint about all this. I rate 99% of the games I play higher than the average score. I guess I just like games more than most people, and maybe that's because I look for the good in them. And that applies to a lot of things. I tend to like movies in general more than other people because I go in with the mindset that it's "good until proven bad" rather than the other way around. I don't have to wait for it to impress me. Another reason I seem to rate games more favorably is because I'm just so ecstatic about getting to play all these great games for absolutely no money whatsoever, and I have these developers to thank for that.

So that's why I'm trying to tell people to be nicer to developers and leave nicer comments. It's partly just because I simply disagree with a lot of the negative things people have to say. So yeah, I'm weird, and I realize that.
