You won't get funnier if you purposely try.... I mean, unless your a comedian. Other wise, you simply cannot make your personality funnier then the guy next to you.
Again, unless your a comedian. Normal funny - no, comedian - yes.

Telling humorous stories is always good for a few laughs. As for on the spot type of comedy, you just need to look at different things in lots of different ways. Take normal objects and try to make them funny. It will be difficult at first, but after awhile you'll get funnier and people might laugh for real as opposed to only to make you feel better. lol.
If your trying to be funnier than the guy with you wit is best, shows you are quick and have a comedic personality. Structured jokes are rarley funny unless you have a knack to telling them or it is a unique joke that you have made. Something like 'Why did the chicken cross the road...' will get no laughs and you will look like a fool yourself.
