I watch the news a lot and have noticed word manipulation has occurred a lot. It seems to be used to the users advantage to make something look good or bad but to the extrema. The news will say things like the "nuclear option" instead of the normal name which has slipped my mind but isn't as intimidating. Do you think that words should be used by there intensity and what the news and government is doing is wrong or is it fair game to say things way out of proportion to either cover something up or make it sound horrible?

This pretty much ties in with the "We only read the headlines"-respons.
There is not really a way we can get around it, since media is colouring our opinion along with everything else we encounter. The only thing that will actually save us from it is to be critical about what we hear and read, or simply stop watching the news.
Every individual has their own subjectivity and thus will communicate through it, and depending on how they do and how well it goes, they will be able to change the opinion in others or at least get the other part to believe in what they said.
