I recently stumbled across a new article saying that Bill Gates isnt the richest man anymore, he was beeten by a Mexican named Carlos Slim Helu. This is a bit of a surprise for me espacilly with Bill holding the record for the past 15 years
What do you guys think, will Bill make number one again? Or are his glory days over.
The Top 10 Billionarie's list as released by Forbes for he year 2010 : Link I never seemed to feel that Bill Gates would retain the No.1 title for long. Someone had to trump him, be it now or a few years later.
If you notice the world's richest people's list keeps changing every month or so, depending on the stock market and trade fluctuations. Mukesh Ambani was the richest man for only a week before the 2008 recession struck.
I read the list last year and it said that Warren Buffet was the richest, followed by Bill, followed by Slim. So Bill hasn't actually been the richest man every year.
Bill Gates as Moe said doesn't own Micro$oft anymore so he likely won't ever be on top again.
Bill GAtes still has rights on Microsoft, and from what i have undertook he still makes money through it (Through stock).
even if he doesn't own microsoft, he still owns 60% of shares of microsoft.
Actually he owns only 8% of Microsoft, but he is the largest shareholder. If he owned 60%, he would have a net value of almost 300 billion dollars, and that would be the end of competition.
he is behind carlos just by 0.5 billon dollars(everything for us, nothing for him)
I found that pretty funny too when I saw it, as it looks like a decimal, if each user on AG had a million dollars, it still wouldn't fill the gap.
Bill Gates actually donated so much money that he lost his position as the richest man. I think.
Yes very true, he didn't care about being the richest man, he gave away so much money to the Bill Gates Foundation, he has gave so much money away, but Microsoft generated more for him than he can give away lol.
He may not be the richest man in the world but I'd still be happy to trade places with him, financially at least. He's done well, especially for a college dropout. But I think most of the richest people's money is in the form of stock, though at times that can be a good thing, though as we've seen it can also be a bad thing.
The only real reason that Bill Gates is not the richest man, or Buffet for that matter, is because of our economic recession. Buffet lost billions in the stock market, as did Bill Gates, only reason Slim is on top is because he is from another country. Warren Buffet will rise up again, but Bill Gates will never be #1, but will be in the top 10. And btw...who cares? It's just a statistic, he still owns trillions.
