Since I have been moderating the "Metal Bands World Cup" with a lot of fun, it gave me an idea...
Why not do the same for the 'Classic Rock Bands' from all over the world?!
So, with credits to Agent_AAS for giving me the idea, here it is!!!
Ladieeeeeeees aaaaaaaaaaand gentlemeeeeeeeeen, we proudly present to you, the
_______________________________________________________________________ ### CLASSIC ROCK BANDS WORLD CUP !!! ### _______________________________________________________________________ The format of this World Cup for Classical Rock Bands is based upon the organisation schematics of the Soccer World Cup, same as the "Metal Bands World Cup" was made. It has the same rules as the Soccer Cup in terms of proceeding through, but it will follow a few rules of its own too. To elaborate the >binding rules< for this competition:
# The Group stage: -There will be 8 different groups presented in the thread, one at a time, and each group will be consisting of 5 Classical Rock Bands that will be pre-selected by me or one of the co-mods. -Every user of Armor Games has the power to give one point with one vote for one band only. So you only get to vote for one band in a group, no double voting for a single band or voting for more than one band per group. No exceptions will be made in this matter. -When one of the bands in a particular group reaches the 10 points limit, the voting for that group is over and that group will be closed for voting by me or one of the co-mods. Both the 'group winner' and the 'runner up' band will proceed to the knockout stage of this World Cup. -If two bands will reach the 10 points limit at the same time in a group, the band that reached the 10 points limit first, will automatically be declared 'group winner' and the band that reached the 10 points limit secondly, will automatically be declared 'runner up'. This rule also applies for the second place in the group. If two bands reach a similar point count for second place at the same time, the band reaching this point count first, will then automatically be declared 'runner up'. Remaining bands will be eliminated of the competition. Again, no discussions about the outcome are allowed, should this situation occur in a group.
The Knockout Stage: -After completing the Group stage, the 'group winner' of the first group will be up against the 'runner up' of the second group. The 'group winner' of the second group will be up against the 'runner up' of the first group. This scedule will be followed for the rest, to clarify: #1 Group A vs. #2 Group B (Winning band is called 'Winner I' #1 Group B vs. #2 Group A (Winning band is called 'Winner II' #1 Group C vs. #2 Group D (Winning band is called 'Winner III' #1 Group D vs. #2 Group C (Winning band is called 'Winner IV' #1 Group E vs. #2 Group F (Winning band is called 'Winner V' #1 Group F vs. #2 Group E (Winning band is called 'Winner VI' #1 Group G vs. #2 Group H (Winning band is called 'Winner VII' #1 Group H vs. #2 Group G (Winning band is called 'Winner VIII' -Like in the famous 'Battle of the Bands thread', you (again) get to vote once for one band only. -When one of the bands in this knockout battle reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition. The 1/4 Finals: -The next stage, the 1/4 finals, will be held in this order: # Winner I vs. Winner V # Winner II vs. Winner VI # Winner III vs. Winner VII # Winner IV vs. Winner VIII -When one of the bands in these 1/4 final battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition. The Semi Finals: -The semi finals will be held in the order of: # Winner I/V vs. Winner II/VI # Winner III/VII vs. Winner IV/VIII -When one of the bands in these Semi Finals battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition. The 'Shadow Final': -A number three and four is decided in a match between both 'losing' bands from the semi finals. Again, the ranking of third and fourth place in this Final is decided upon the band that reaches the 10 points limit first. The Final match: -The Final match is held between both winning bands from the semi finals. -When one of the bands in the Final reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared the winner of the competition and is crowned The 'CRBWC' Champion 2010. -The remaining band is ranked #2 in this competition. # Further rules for this competition: -You can only vote once per group and only once per knockout battle -You are obligated to give a good reasoning on why you choose the band to get your vote. ('They are the best' or 'I like them' is not accepted as a reasoning.) -There will be NO playoffs held in this competition. -You don't get to complain when 'your band' is eliminated from the competition. -Swearing and obscene language is not tolerated. Always respect the opinion(s) of the other users participating in this thread, even if you disagree on their reasoning. -The 'Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations' and the 'Battle of the ... Thread Rules' are to be followed for this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'. They will be referred to when needed. You can find them here: Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations Battle of the ... I have to vote for The Beatles. Even my mom, who didn't like their music, knew this band was going to skyrocket way past Elivs, the King. I watched their American debut, 2/9/64 on The Ed Sullivan Show and heard all of the girls, much older than me, screaming and crying. I asked mom what all of the fuss was about and then I heard, "All My Loving", "Till There Was You", "She Loves You", "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and this group was good. They had stage presense like Elvis but they didn't have to dance, they were good musicians with killer boots!
They took the world from rock n' roll to rock in the course of a few years, or maybe 2 albums? They broke up in 1970 and a lot of us fans wanted to blame Yoko Ono, and her terrible singing voice for stealing John Lennon away from us but we, the fans, needed to mature. It's just that we didn't want the "Yellow Submarine" to dock. This group had introduced us to LSD via their music like, "Strawberry Fields, Forvever" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Their innovations kept a whole generation of Baby Boomers happily entertained during some of the darkest days in American history, from Vietnam, JFK's assassination, the race riots and campus prostests of the war to MLK,jr's and Bobby Kennedy's assassinations. My favorite song has to be "Eleanor Rigby", as this was the song all of us could play on the piano. It gave all American kids an opportunity to be a Beatle for a few minutes!
Allthough tomertheking's vote was allmost 'open for discussion', I'll count it and put Aerosmith out of their misery in this battle, but... not without giving them a second -in my opinion well deserved- vote to keep their heads high when leaving this competition! =)
My vote for Aerosmith will be backed up with my love for their ever so explosive live shows lead by their charismatic lead singer Steven Tyler (that is... if he's able to stay ON the stage, instead of down in front of it! LOL) where they, year after year-show after show, continue to please and whip up the crowd with their smash rock hits like Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Janie's Got A Gun, Amazing, Cryin', Eat The Rich, Crazy and (of course duh...) my personal favorite 'Tyler-Teaser' Love In An Elevator!!! Goodmorning Mr. Tyler, going... down...? Hahahaaahmhmmm?! =P
And with my personal vote counted, I'm closing this round with a dazzling (but expected) final score:
This is a hard one, but it must be how I feel today. I choose AC/DC for thier cords are magical at times. not as magical as the voice behind Queen who created their own type of music. Still AC/DC was a pineer of rock.
queen. no singer will ever be on the level that freddie was on. i mean to me the lead singer of AC/DC is just obnoxious. and there songs jut get annoying
Queen. Very hard decision, like Google said, it largely depends on how you're feeling that day. But I have to go with Queen. Sure they were a rock and roll band, but they incorporated different genres of music into their songs, much like the Beatles did in the decade before them. In fact, it wouldn't be that far off of an assumption if you called them The Beatles of the 70s. Bohemian Rhapsody, for instance, incorporates opera, jazz and showtunes, yet still maintaining its status as a rock song. Very ingenius, ahead of their time.
Queen is better. AC/DC had a very good style to its time, but Queen totally rocks them. Bohemian Rhapsody is a good mix of diffrent things in diffrent voices, and famous phrases (for the time) like "mama mia", "galeleio", ect. We are the Champions is an excelent classic till this day, We Will Rock you is even more of a classic than any other with great lirics and sound, but my personal favorite is the not-very known song by the name "The show must go on" for it's emotional sound and lirics, and espessially because I like sad, slow songs.
AC/DC. I like queen for shure but AC/DC plays thier music better. I love the way Angus shreds the guitar. And how Brian shreds the lyrics! AC/DC for shure. No compitition. AC/DC is full of rock legends. From Bon to Angus to Brian. AC/DC is one of the best bands int he world. No doudt. (Oh and on a t.v. show that rated the top 100 best bands as voted in by mucicians and other rock bands. Ac/dc came in like 5 or 4th or sumtin. And thier Black Ice concert that recently ended came second in the world with like most sold out tickets or most populor or sumtin.)
My vote goes for Queen. Freddie mercury's singing in my opinion is much better than either Bon Scott or Brian Johnson. Plus, I prefer Brian May's guitar much better than Angus Young's. And to top it all off, I prefer Queen's individual songs better, such as "Fat Bottomed Girls", "I want it all", and "Stone Cold Crazy". Queen is better, and I believe that is how the AG community will vote.
I vote for Queen too. AC/DC has a great sound, but I just like Queen more, especially the singing. I prefer clean vocals, and also it has more feelings. Compared to AC/DC the percentage of songs from Queen I like is much higher, and I think there are some really big classics like the already mentioned We Are The Champions and We Will Rock You.
K.O. Round #6 : AC/DC 2 -vs- Queen 5 Wow I'm amazed how all the votes had a wordy repsonse and just a psam post answer. Good job guys, we are getting better. Well, two straight for Queen will they win?
