There was a contest a few years ago on who could make the best armatar but other that that I can tell you nothing.

If my memory serves me well, the site's armatars are made by artists hired by AG. The last batch were made a few months back. The more crude looking ones are the user submitted thematic armatars.

I believe the people who posted above me are right. I haven't been on that long, but someone told me that some artists did them.

Sadly, we have no idea who created the FIRST armatars. There has been plenty of batches, and the latest batch (dinosaurs) has been made by our fine moderator Zophia.
