ok i know it may be early in my life to be deciding this but i want to be a radio dj. infact ive already starting saving money to start it.

i was always supposed to the airforce acadomy and stuff and since a couple days ago when i went to some classes with a cadet and he showed me around and he told me about everything in the school, i realized somethine. i dont want to have the millitary life stile.

i want to be a radio dj and idc who tells me otherwise now my question is hw exactly to i get something running like this. i know i wont get it in the near future but by the time im 19 to 22 i can start up my own station does anybody know exactly how to get into it?

public radio stations usually have some sort of program where kids learn to dj on the radio, and do interviews and stuff. there are also schools that teach radio journalism and stuff.

Well, you might want to save a lot more money. Radio stations are insanely expensive to start. Once up, they're pretty cheap, but really expensive to start. A friend of mine did a project on it, and it will cost you upwards of a million dollars to start a properly functioning radio station. (they can be cheaper with salvaged equipment, but that's highly unpredictable)

I would start with college or high school courses in journalism. For the job itself, apply for a low level position (unless you go to college and get a degree) and go up from there.

DJ's aren't very common jobs, and they usually take some working up to.

I would like to do that too it sounds pretty cool, but I don't think I could gather that much money. Maybe you could google DJ jobs and see what comes up.

yea i wouldn't take the risk of starting a new station cause i bet it is expensive, i would try to take the place of dj for a already well known station and then if you like it start your own station

You have a low voice, right? Because high voiced people don't belong on the radio if they're male.

you don't, but you will learn how to do it much better. It's kinda like getting a degree in music or art.

What about if they're in comedy?
Meh, I don't know anything about being a DJ, but I do have an Amateur Radio license, so I know a bit about radio propagation and associated theory if you feel like asking.

Only if they're accompanied by a low voiced person.

There are communication colleges where you can major in radio ( broadcasting, etc). One of my buddies is actually getting his degree radio. Now... as people said, you can work your way up without a degree, but I am sure having on could help you out. These places do exist.

ya im thinking about doing something like that but the problem is with the radio stations in colorado it seams like all of the the ones that are in my musical interest wouldnt work out. do they jsut give people DJ jobs but dont put ure voice on the radio or is that jsut out of the question?

IM REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT DOING THIS just incase any of youre were sceptical on my commitment. i want to dj

I would go to your public radio station, and see if you can talk to someone about going into radio. they most likely won't give you a show or anything like that, but I bet they would help you out a lot as far as learning the basics of radio broadcasting. they might even let you volunteer to help out there.
