Old Metallica is way better, it was their golden age.
New stuff is great too, but not near as good as the old stuff.

To give an opinion on it, I'd say the old Metallica wins with ease from the new Metallica! =D

But just to be exact on it... where do you define the 'old' Metallica ends and the 'new' Metallica starts then? How about that? 0_o

"New" Metallica starts with the Black Album, easy. It was when they started changing their sound and becoming more mainstream, although i consider many songs on the Black Album metal.

Black album still wasn't mainstream. They got there with Load. It was good, very good though. Proves mainstream stuff isn't always bad.

Considering my favorite album ever is old Metallica, that's an easy win.

Black Album wasn't 100% mainstream, but it sure was more mainstream than the others before.

though ...And Justice For All was their last great album, i do like some Black Album songs

Old for sure, but I'm not burning their new stuff either. It's still good (Fuel isa good song) but I prefer their old stuff like Blackened, Welcome Home, and Master of Puppets.

The newer metallica is...less heavy. I really dislike Death Magnetic's drums.

I don't see why you're comparing the old stuff to the new stuff.. 8 albums VS. 1?? Not really fair man, gotta say the new stuff is different, but still can tell it's Metallica! still, gotta love the solos especially in the new album
But overall I can't choose ha, Metallica's Metallica baby!
