Girl Talk, or Greg Michael Gillis, is a mashup artist from Philadelphia. For those of you who aren't familiar with mashups, they're essentially layered parts of multiple songs that a D.J. may put together.
Gillis however, has a strong disdain for being dubbed a D.J., and argues that in his sampling and mashups he creates his own unique songs. I have to say I agree. Not only does he mix songs in combinations that almost no one would think would work, he makes them catchy and extremely popular. Girl Talk mixes close to a dozen songs per track normally.
Now, not only is his skill with the software commendable, but he also puts on a HELL of a live show. I went to a concert on my college campus and it was 1,000 people jumping up and down, dancing, and having a good time. As someone who basically just sits up there and presses a button and mixes a little bit, I have to say he did a great job.
I never thought I would either; I went to the concert because I wanted an excuse to get drunk and dance with hot girls. It turns out his stuff was actually really good and I ended up downloading two of his albums, Night Ripper and Feed the Animals.
