There's not much originality in games these days. Most of the games i play in the internet these days are clones of other games with only a few changes made to it. There are even a few games like that over here.
Developers should think up of new ideas for games because i get bored very quickly when playing these clones. The popularity of the game is also affected if it's a clone of another game. Sydney Shark/Miami Shark is the biggest example of a clone game in this site. Although i have played on several sites, AG shocked me a little. Very few clones here when compared to other game sites But it's not completely free of clones. More originality in games will keep the die hard gamers like me entertained for long. Yesterday i played Bubble Tanks 2 for 6 hours without stopping, i beat the main enemy and was playing in Invincible Mode for 5 hours without getting bored because It's a very good example for an original game. There are some games here which have several clones and few games which have a very little clones like Toss The Turtle. I've played games in the past that are similar to TTT but can't remember the names now.

We need more originality in games. These days I'm either playing the original games in AG, testing the new games or most of the time hunting on Google for Email Hacking.

Who here agrees with me that we need more originality?

Sydney Shark is the sequel to Miami Shark. Didn't you notice the developer Mausland's logo?

Originality is lacking true, but you should either make your own game or talk to developers directly. Staying here in a flash game sponsor's forum isn't the best way to get to the devs directly. And even AG's own game developers rarely talk to us here in the boards. I suggest you go to Newgrounds or something.

Pirate Launch is a copy-ish of Toss the Turtle.

Lemme say right now, way too many tower defence games. My biggest letdown was Bubble Tanks did one.

Otherwise lookat knight's. :b

I have to agree, tower defense is the most flash game raped genre of them all. Er, overused. Why do developers keep on making them endlessly and more times than not, exactly the same as others? Some are more unique which makes them good as they combine elements from other genres, while others are just the same only, hiding in different clothing.

Ever since Desktop Tower Defense broke out, I've been seeing lots of TDs. Unrelated, I've also played what some people refer to as the ancestor of modern TD games, the old arcade game Rampart. Good fun.

You spell defence with a "c" like we Kiwis, Aussies and Brits do?

To be honest, asking for more originality will not cause said originality to somehow exist. Not everyone is good at being both creative and good at making games. I would rather play a remake that was done well then an original game that was poorly put together. A good example of this would be Crush the Castle which was based off of another game called Castle Clout(I think that was its name) but my point is that it took an idea and improved it to the point where its now one of the best selling Iphone game apps(top 100 I believe). Originality is good, but its a rare element much of the time, and even then originality does not make a game.

Originality is good, but I don't think it's something that is lacking, not in Flash games anyway. The main reason I like Flash games so much is because of all the creativity. Unlike large game companies, independent Flash developers can afford to take risks because they aren't depending on the game making back the millions of dollars they've spent on it.

I think this is something that cannot be cured (for lack of a better word), mainly since the games are made by a lot of people who get ideas by playing other games and then make their own version...

The only thing we can hope for is that when developers make similar games or sequels to existing games, they make that game slightly different to the prequel... but with that, you cannot dismiss the fact that a lot of people enjoy particular games and are jumping at the chance to play a second game with similar outlinings or story, just because they liked the first edition of it! =)

It's all a matter of personal opinion in this I'm afraid... *shrugs*
