Though yes, at the moment it is a necessity, things considered "natural" can all be replaced within a hundred years, so unless we attempt genocide on every species then we will be fine by the time the "nature" was destroyed. I feel like natural things are mostly a tool to earn money at the moment, for many "green" products cost more, are less effective, and do little in the means of helping the "environment". People should stop worrying about problems that are not problems that are not problems and focus on things that matter. Money being spent to research said "green" attempts should be redirected to robotics, as robotics can mimic and even improve upon "natural" things. So, why are so many people obsessed with "natural, Nature, green" things? (I would have to guise propaganda. PS, please keep flaming to a minimum since someone is probably going to flame me...)

Why are so many people concerned about "Nature"*
Something to do with morality and rights. Preserving nature can be beneficial to the 'robots' by discovering another species and looking at it's actions.
The methods of preserving so far are very inefficient though, and kills humans.
It's fine to be a little conscious about the environment, but the way some people do it is pathetic. The world isn't there to be saved every five seconds. You're interfering just as much by constantly being so active about it.
I'm concerned about protecting nature because... well... have you seen nature? It's epic. Hiking is literally my favorite activity. Right now I have to drive pretty far to get somewhere where I can't hear traffic anymore.

I'm not saying your wrong, but could you give specific examples? Otherwise I don't know whether you are refering to some eco-terrorist or the green movement in general.

The pressurized hoses they used to clear off some of the oil killed the microbial community, damaging the ecosystem even more than the oil did. Sometimes people with good motives just don't think.

I have seen it, yet I prefer machines and mettle to trees and grass. Besides that, are you saying we should spend millions to billions of dollars saving something that is pretty, even if your not really saving it?

It may be needed to have houses everywhere at one point in the future. Smog will be able to be cleared, possibly by crop duster like machines, possibly by filter like machines. Then dye everything green. Pride in having a tree? I rather have pride in being the most technologically advanced nation.

Why should companies not exploit it? If it can be replaced, then it actually should be used. Though human are animals, in most people's minds they are not "nature", witch is why I have been using the quotes around "nature", as it is used as a relative term.

The world isn't going to go to hell in 2012, that's much too soon. If we were to abandon all alternative energy, and clear cut all our forest, and do whatever the hell we want to the earth maybe, but not while we keep doing what were doing.
Ya know, we do live on planet Earth. We do exist in a land of nature, and if we don't preserve it, our planet may become inhabitable, and the human population would be ultimately screwed.
In terms of ecology, preservation of the environment may not be important so as to make our biosphere look 'good and green', but to maintain necessary ecological processes that were disturbed by human activities, and may irrevocably harm our planet and thus ourselves in the long run.
