I dont know about aliens being here a long time ago but there are ancient text saying "bright lights in the sky" and Christopher Columbus and his crew saw a "disc" come out of the ocean as they were on their way to the new world. Some people think that it came up from Atlantis but i am not quick to make assumptions. As for aliens existing you would be naive to say they didnt.
Personally, I believe extraterrestrials exist, it would be kinda arrogant to believe that in the entire universe, of which we are a infinitesimally small speck, we are the only form of intelligent life.
Besides, I can't think of any other explanation for the fact that ancient people could create their gigantic stone structures, that we in the twenty-first century could only do so with incredible difficulty.

Well ancient aliens would explain the creation of ancient structures that even with current technology cannot be built. I'm pretty sure that the pyramids in South America are way too perfect.

I think we're just not willing to give ancient people credit for being smart. We're trying to uphold the belief that they were just a bunch of stupid cavemen with no way of figuring anything out. I mean in the future, they'll be wondering if aliens had contacted Oppenheimer because no human could ever be smart enough to understand atomic structure.
