Last night was the Eurovision Song Contest. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a group of countries in Europe who compete in a song contest showing off their best talent.
This is mostly one for the Europeans in the Armor Games community (plus Israel and Azerbaijan who for some reason take part). I am from the UK and I'm disappointed because we came last. It's as much a political battle as it is a question of talent. Quite rightly, Germany won. They recovered most of Europe during the recession but for some reason received no votes from Israel... Another thing to note is that Cyprus and Greece both gave each other the maximum votes (neighbouring voting is seen throughout the contest).
What do you guys think about Eurovision (both from an outside and inside point of view)? Personally, I'd like for the United Kingdom to drop of of competing because we always come round bottom which means either Europe hates us or nobody in the UK can sing or play an instrument.
I watched this years eurovision twice. Its all about politics. Countries vote for countries based on political standing. Azerbaijan for example always gives its highest vote to Turkey.
Germany's sucked. I seriously thought they were the worst and somehow they ended up being first by a huge lead. Total bs -_-
But anyway, I liked France, Romania, Moldova, Greece, Turkey, and Slovakia this year. Im sure I'm missing some others too though
I personally though Ukraine was the best. Her voice was very good and there was a pretty nice guitar riff in the background - it was simple, but it was very effective. Turkey was good too, I suppose, lots of pyrotechnics and a lot less operatic than all the rest.
We absolutely sucked. God only knows how that guy made it into Eurovision. Israel and Spain were bad (Spain was more annoying and childish than bad, actually) too. Haven't ever watched a Eurovision before . . . At least this years is not as bad as 1981s . . . *shudders* Bucks Fizz . . .
4th place is always nice. I wondered a great deal of that new system of theirs, with half the votes being from the countries' citizens, and the other half being from so called experts on the field. Was that to make it less likely to become one of the "country always votes for country"? I was somewhat amused by the flash mob, though.
I thought Germany rightly won ive got the song on my ipod its so catchy her accent is really cool. I just dont get what it is with england and eurovision im from england and thought the guy wasnt too bad but every year we come in a really rubbish place. Has England actually ever won? I also liked Manga from Turkey there song was pretty cool also the girl from Ukraine was fantastic i think she should have done better than she did. Spain was funny when that guy came on stage howver the song was really annoying and childish.
