So after looking around a bit I generally learned that 90% of the threads in the forum dealt with generic rock and rap which left me feeling like I didn't have much taste in music. so does anyone else here spend there time listening to Alternative or Indie Rock or Pop?

Some examples include:
The Scientist By Coldplay.
Chicago By Sufjan Stevens.
Chasing Cars By Snow Patrol
Human By The Killers.
Woman King By Iron & Wine.
Wonderwall By Oasis
Over my Head (Cable Car By The Fray

You have other artists such as Jack Johnson, The Dave Mathews Band and John Mayer and hundreds more.

So I'm alone on AG with my musical tastes or are there others?

I prefer the old Alternative Rock a.k.a The Smiths,
The Police, etc. But some of the newer stuff is great too. So no, you are not alone.

It's pretty much all I listen too now; I can't stand the banal, inspipid, generic pop and rap that's popular at the moment. I love most alternative bands from Joy Division to Nirvana from Oasis to Blur. I love the sound though I hate the assumptions people make about me for listening to it; just cos I like The Smiths doesn't mean I'm either depressing or a cunt hipster. And I wouldn't say Wonderwall is alternative anymore it's been gobbled up by the mainstream you gotta dig deeper than that lol

I Wanna be Adored-- The Stone Roses.
D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman? -- Oasis
Charmless Man-- Blur
Pop Scene-- Blur
Common People-- Pulp

this is just speaking from the people I know but they just come across as being very fake and conscious of what people think of them; in this instance they don't listen to indie music because they like it but because they think they should like it Other people elsewhere may be different but like I say the ones I know are not very nice people to hang out with :/

Fair enough lol I love it live it steps up a gear compared to the studio version Though nothing beats Live Forever for me

I've never been a huge fan of the Killers I'll be honest I think I've been too far too many school disco's with bad Dj's who put them on to try and tempt the indie kids onto the dance floor only for everyone but the indie kids to dance XD they appeal to a wide base of people and (probably unfairly) are a little too close to pop for my tastes.

I am the Resurrection by the Stone Roses is one of my favourite songs the guy who wrote it describes it as "a murderous attack on one individual" and the lyrics are so easy to spit out:

Don't waste your words
I don't need anything from you
I don't care where you've been
Or what you plan to do

Cut loose 'cause you're no use
I couldn't stand another second
In your company

It's 5 minutes of cutting, bile and is completely glorious in it's execution.

I would have to say that The Smiths are one of my favourite "Alternative" bands. Morrisey is one of my all-time favourite singers, his voice is so distinctive, I f***ing want that voice! Johnny Marr is definitely one of the best guitarists of the last 30 years, and hell, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce are a damn good rhythm section, if I do say so myself!

Just some of their best songs for ya to check out!: This Charming Man, Bigmouth Strikes Again, There is a Light That Never Goes Out (one of the most painfully beautiful songs ever written), The Headmaster Ritual, and I Know It's Over

Also a great "Alternative" band to give a spin are the Pixies, who created one of the greatest albums ever with 1989's Doolittle. Black Francis is a musical innovator truly unlike any other, with the rest of the band (Kim Deal on bass, Joey Santiago on lead guitar, and Dave Lovering on drums) are just great!

Here are some of their best songs!: Debaser, Hey, Gigantic, Wave of Mutilation, Where is My Mind?

Those are just a couple of my favourites. I know The Smiths were previously mentioned, but I thought I'd give a little more on them. I was actually quite surprised that the Pixies hadn't been mentioned yet, as well.
