I was wanted to see what you guys' opinions were on year-long school. I personally think I would hate it because I enjoy the one, long 3-month break for summer.

Why not?

Summer jobs...

It's kind of hard/impossible to work full time during the school year. Summer is a nice chance to make some money. If it wasn't for summer break, I would never have been able to afford a car/gas/food. So there's that.

Well that's no fun; my teacher said you guys had an awesome public school system though.

Something about only two Highs schools per county?

Companies would learn to work around it if all schools were year round because they need workers who are completely happy with minimum wage =P

Maybe.. but I wouldn't count on it. Summer tends to be the yearly high point for employment, what with construction, tourism, fishing, etc. And there are always plenty of adults who will work for minimum wage.

But the main thing is training. If it takes a whole week to train someone enough that they can be self reliant, and you only get two week breaks from school at a time, well... It simply won't work out. You could still work part time, but many businesses won't hire part time workers. Plus, you'll be making less money.

Anyway, I just like being able to get most of my working done in the summer, so I don't have to kill myself during the schoolyear.

Many students still work during the summer here and in countries where there is no three month vacation. Even if there's less time to work.

I like the 6 week breaks ... The 2 week breaks seem too short. Wish they would increase it to 3 week breaks.

Too short? Twelve evenly distributed weeks of vacationing is already quite the same with that in other countries with three continuous months. I believe increase them to three weeks wouldn't be all too necessary.

I guess the breaks do get boring at times.
