I quickly took out my knife as the mutants got closer. I was about to stab the closest one, but it seem John beat me to it. So, i headed toward the second closest one who was looking at John instead of me. I surprised the mutant with a quick stab to back of its head.

--Since John was the first to move, his moves are tackled first chronologically.
John pulled out the gun and shoots the closest mutant to the head, and shoots the rest in the chest(this means he only shoots the closest mutant to the head once, and will shoot the 'rest' (two)) Shooting the first one in the head, it was still alive, and you shoot the rest in the chest. Kira on the other hand, uses his knife on a mutant which was looking at John. Kira killed it, and then the (closest, shot once on the head) mutant moved and tried to kill John..........
This is what I am saying. Be open to things that would make your plan not work. You shot the mutant's head once, but it was still alive, but you did not said "I'll shoot it until it dies".

The mutant who was still alive after the stab turned it head toward me. I was suprised and shocked he lived so i pull out the pistol as a quick reaction and shot it a few times until it died. I turn my attention to last. I had only a few bullets left, so i couldn't waste it here. Who knows what might attack us next. I was about to run toward the last one, but John was having some trouble. We have a better chance if we stick together so i turned back and stabbed and slash like crazy until the mutant died with it back still turn to me. We stare at the last mutant.
