Well, I like Portal because I could never get into Half Life. The game just bored me so much.

Sure they are! They both are first person shooters, they both are part of The Orange Box, and they both were made by Valve. And they both involve solving puzzles, one of which more so...

how do you consider protal a fps? i mean ya is first person but its just an adventure puzzle game

Both, just choosing one of these is a horrible decision, but if you can only get one, Half Life 2 provides more play time.

portal and half life 2 are very similar, but half life two wins, all hands down to that game.

I would have, to choose Portal as I have not played on Half-Life. I have watched videos on youtube of the gameplay but I just couldn't follow the storyline.

They aren't first person shooters... If I would put Portal into a catagory, it would be FPP (First Person Puzzle)
Aslo I don't remember a single puzzel I solved in HL series.

Only one of those facts you named was actually relevant. They may both be first person (shooter's is slightly debatable for portal), but so are COD and Halo, and those games are on opposite ends of the FPS spectrum.
