- If you flag a post, do you have to give a reason?
This is sort of off topic but, can't we just rename the World Events, Politics, Religion, etc. to Irrelevance and Debates? It is shorter and basically defines what it is.
If you break the rules, you get a warning first, like spamming. But some "kind" of "break the rules" that is more heavy you'd either get a tem or perma ban. And yes there are warnings, in some cases. But if spam and rate games for points, Carlie will "likely" perma ban you. Trolling and flaming, you get a warning. But if you keep trolling then, it's a tem' ban. And if you keep on doing it, it'll result to a perma. There are a lot of other rules and ways to get you in trouble.
- Do posts get deleted without telling you?
Sometimes not, sometimes the mods do. Mods like Cenny or Gantic, say in the thread they deleted some posts. But not who's post. So you'd have to figure out yourself. Some mods tell you on your profile.
- If you flag a post, do you have to give a reason?
No, not necessarily. You just flag a post. And the AG staff will handle beyond that. I recommend that you report it. It's quite quicker.

It matter if it's long or short. It's fine the way it is.
If you break the rules you are temporarily ban/Permanently bad depending on the situation.
- Are there warnings?
Depends on how severely you broke the rules. When you are ban you can log in an it will block and a message will be left by the mod banning you, explaining how long you are ban and what you did wrong.
- Do posts get deleted without telling you?
Sometimes. If the post is bad enough a mod will leave a comment.
- If you flag a post, do you have to give a reason?
No. When you flag something, the Mods see it in a bolder text.

Take that up with an administrator such as Carlie.
How long is a temporary ban? Is there an infraction system? Is there are thread I can look at for the banning system?
How long you are banned is up to a moderator. Look at the stickies in the newcomers forum. If you don't find your answer ask a moderator.

I agree that we need an all-encompassing debate. There are people asking for a Science forum, when the WEPR is the de facto forum for scientific talk.
A few things I have to add..
- You can be banned for other time periods, but the only ones really used are 1 day, 3 day and 1 week bans.
- There is no IP address ban.
- The moderators' attitudes vary from one another. They might have different opinions, or do things differently.
- The site's API isn't all too great, so a moderator/administrator will give you a warning through your profile comments. Also, you report any suspicious activity on their comment sections.
Let's say I break a rule and get caught once every six months. Do I keep getting temp bans? If I get six temp ban, do I get a perma ban. Can I get an endless amount of temp bans?
No. When you flag something, the Mods see it in a bolder text.
This is the only thing completely untrue that I've spotted, and I have fivee minutes till my bus leaves... Flagged comments are somehow linked to a database that the devs and admins can check. Mods have nothing to do with them. That's why urgent matters are often better to report than just flag.

We evaluate this sort of thing on a case by case basis, but generally you will be likely to receive longer bans if you've been banned before.
An infraction system would be overly complicated for something that isn't urgent.
Ours is quite simple: Break the rules, get banned. Hope you get a merciful mod and get one or three, and hope that they don't find it severe. It's case by case, and not too many people get banned everyday. Most people will probably get banned once, if they're on excessively. People get carried away, and get banned.
But it's not very common, and thus no need for a infraction system.

Thanks Zoph. I never recall that being mentioned. I have to take note.
There is no need for a rigid site-based infraction system, at least now. We have a system which works well right now.
Report/Find > Review > Decision
Works like that. Though we don't have a built-in whistle system, users can easily report to staff members through their profiles. If there is a need to review, they will review each case. After deliberating, a decision will be made.
There aren't too many troublemakers here, so the staff doesn't have many problems here. This community is able to self-regulate itself properly, without a site infraction system.
So no infraction system? The banning system seems a little disorganized.
It is a little disorganized, but only a little. We do keep some track of who did what and how many times, but again with the case by case evaluation... Say we know someone has been warned for spamming twice. This person spams again, okay, one of us notice. Depending on who, this can result in either another regular warning, a fairly sterner warning or a temp ban. Or possibly something else.
Personally I tend to warn once, then ban if the warning is ignored, or warn again if it's something different that the person did - but each of us mods are left to determine exactly how to handle any individual rule breaking.
Anywho.
We haven't seen a need for a more precise tracking of warn/ban records, nor a reputation/whistle system... And what I've seen of such on other forums hasn't really made it look efficient. Then again, the mods on one of those were a bit...
