Well, I consider myself a nerd, and hold that as a bit of a badge of honour right there... Not everyone can be of our esteemed ranks, you know.
You might also call me a bit of a gun nerd (I gots me a firearms encyclopedia and can pretty much take apart my AR in my sleep), and I also love math and the sciences, so I'm more of an all-around nerd. -_- Judge me as you will, my own judgment is all that matters.
True , These so called 'Nerds' created the technology and games we have today! If we did'nt have these 'Nerds' we wouldn't have this stuff! So next time you see a 'Nerd' pay them some respect because when they get older they might go into building cool stuff or making games to entertain us!
I disagree with 'nerd' being an insult, i tend to take it as a compliment, especially since it is typically used in an accusatory fashion by those of inferior intellect, thus perpetuating my feelings of mental superiority.
Also I'd have to actually care about what people think for something to be insulting...
I would use the word nerd only because I'm lazy... one syllable versus four syllables. :P But hey, the people you call nerds are probably going to end up being your boss one day. :P No matter how strange they may seem now.
I favour myself a "Nerd" as I can do most things my friends could never do. I get good grades in school, can entertain myself and have plenty of friends at school. Times have changed since the dawn of technology. You can openly call yourself a nerd and still be considered the cool guy.
But call it whatever you like, I just like to know that I can be myself. <3
I'm a hardcore gamer (By your description). I don't have any problem with the term 'Nerd'. When I talk video games with my friends or colleagues, my brother and I use the term nerd/geek-out session. Because that's really all they are.
