Well, I'm going to skip the introductions because if you don't know me by now then you obviously haven't been paying close attention.

As we all know I am not the world's most &quotro religion" person out there. However, as some of you have learned the hard way, I am also not one to be an advocate for sheer stupidity and mind numbing ignorance. Case and point? Ever since the mods shut down the old Did God Create Evil thread, where we all debated everything to do with religion a multitude of misinformed or just plain wrong, religious "debates" have sprung up on the forums. The former core of the religious debaters have long left matters to those we can no longer tolerate. Wajor, Mage, Samy, Myself and a few others. The problem is there are now so many religious "debates" that the forums are an absolute mess. I appreciate what the mods tried to do, but they have ultimately failed.

However, those who keep making religious debate threads should stop. It has all been covered, we have given up on it, no one will win. We accept this. It is a proven FACT. Now would you please kindly stop making pointless threads that will lead you no where? If you want to debate religion find ONE THREAD and latch on to it, do not make MORE!

Sincerely,
Wolf

I don't get a name mention? You give them the best years of your life...

Well there is "Religion" in the name of this forum. Having multiple religious threads allows for more specific debating, giving the original point a greater chance of survival than if it is brought up in a solo thread. There is no reason to only have one, save for cleanliness sake, but the actual thread would be a disaster, defeating the point in my mind.

Sure, we are not going to convert someone on the spot. The point is not that, it is to get your opponent thinking of other possibilities. Why give up on that?

I would also like to add it's useful for getting one self to think and consider the possibilities, not just your opponent. There have been plenty of times I have dug up new information while looking for that link to help my argument along. I have also found that I have gotten better voicing my thoughts and opinions, not just here but in real life as well.

As for the problem at hand. The mods tried to create a single place to put all these individual topics and it failed miserably, my guess is it felt to constraining in function. They close the "one religious thread to rule them all" because they felt it wasn't structured enough. The middle ground to this are multiple topics where we can talk freely but still have a good chance to stay on topic of the OP. While the drawback is that it creates more clutter, it also keeps better focus and allows for multiple topics of religion to be discussed at the same time.

I don't think religion should ever be debated, as debates use facts. Religious texts usually provides very little to no facts at all. It was an error to add religion to the forum name.

This alone is a good reason why I debate on here.

And I kinda agree with the OP that even in the year Iv been on the forums I have seen numerous nonsensical threads start up with little or no thought for other threads that are asking the same thing... BUT... please realise that some people are asking very specific questions and due to human nature, these get either sidelined or forgotten about.

Im not sure as to a solution, but you cant stop people posting stupid threads, you just gotta hope they die the death they deserve and that the good threads carry on.

A consiquence of this is that some threads get pushed down the list and some people may not see something they are interested in.

Maybe start a new Religion forum... because is obvious its one of the BIGGEST subjects on the AG forum at least. Meh!
