Well I guess the title says it all, I was just wondering who ya'll thought were the most active 'forumers' in this part of the AG forum. Opinions, that what this Forum is going to be, pure opinions, and yes you can say 'Me'.
Virtual reality?
I would be taken aback to see that in five years. I usually think 10-20 years.
so how long has this topic been going on
I do believe he's referring to the topic about upgrade systems.
I agree with knight, VR in 5 years is definitely pushing it, but with how fast technology advances, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see it. Although I do expect the advent of more thought controlled games, such as the...
Mattel Mindflex
Mind control is good. Just several years.....
We've had the upgrade systems topic since August 15.
About VR*...
You know what I like about video games? The fact that they aren't real, and that I can easily tell that they are not real. That way, I don't have to worry about my own morals or my devotion to pacifism when I slaughter hundreds (okay, thousands) of civilians in GTA. I can make the clear distinction between reality and the world of video games. I can say, "Okay, I would never do this in real life, but this is awesome."
But when you get into mind control and VR, everything changes. Sure, you aren't really killing someone. But you kind of are. I mean, you are killing a thing with what you perceive to be your own hands, using motions that would be lethal in real life. This "erson" may not actually be a living organism, but they would appear to be one.
Granted, you could still have the knowledge in the back of your head that you didn't murder a real person. But everything that you see, feel, and hear, would tell you otherwise. And that's a little too freaky.
*I'm talking Matrix level VR, not some corny video visor with motion sensitive gloves. IE everything looks and feels real, and your own movements are translated perfectly into the game.
If VR and mind controlled games would be like you explain aknerd, I think it would be very restricted to certain age groups.. And that would be fighting games and shooting games.
Though you could also play other games with VR. Racing, puzzle, even animated games....and teens in the future would have grown up with the games. So it would be different from what it looks like now.
Aknerd, I don't think that could ever happen, because remember in the Matrix, when people 'die' they actually die. For video games, this could result in a death toll of the hundreds of thousands if not millions. Plus in the Matrix, when one entered VR, they were completely defenseless, and should the proverbial plug be pulled, they would die.
I do believe however that VR of the level demoed in the Net Force series, could one day come about. If we're lucky.
You're one of the stupidest people I've seen today Sloth.
Perhaps in the future Kyouzou, several decades from now. Technology has advanced at a blindingly fast rate. More so, in comparison to previous eras.

Thanks, I needed that word. Of course, if a catastrophe occurs on the apocalyptic scale, we'll see a sudden drop.
I watched Surrogates, it was meh. I find anything remotely similar to that very unlikely to eventuate by 2017.

Hmmm..
What would you people do in a VR world? Aside from racing.
Hmmm, I would look at what would happen in different VR's, and I would space travel.
Maybe attend some horror thing and get so scarred I would....
And then I would get in some movie based games like The Matrix or LOTR.
And then I would go in some historical moments, like some WW2 wars. And that was my day in a VR world.
Quite exciting that would be.
Imagine if a VR simulation of everyday life was created.. Eh, what would you do?
Assuming there would be no consequences whatsoever, I would do obscene things I'd never do out of curiosity. Erm, kill a bunch of people, blah blah.
Though, if we ever have such an advanced level of VR so that the lines between reality and virtual reality are blurred, I'll be concerned for some reason. I just don't know, all I can be sure of is that it'd be quite unusual.
Though that would be great for old people, wanting too re-live their youth.
And if I could do such everyday stuff without consequences.
Mwahahaha, so many possibilities. I would totally run naked around town and then rob a store.
