Let us assume that a person follows their gender archetype (which is not strictly true, but is on average.) This does make for some extraordinarily cynical commentary, so you've been warned.
"Date" here seems to refer exclusively to heterosexual relationships, or at least relationships in which the gender roles are clearly defined as one male, one female, as the behaviours typically clash:
A girl won't pursue intimate relations unless they feel an emotional attachment.
A guy just wants in the pants. Any relationship is just an ego boost in the form of status. Consequentially, a guy is usually completely oblivious to the emotional status of a girl and will only think in terms of whether he has a girl or not.
The guy needs to convince the girl that there is an emotional attachment. This is to say that he has to give off the right cues. I read a recent paper that suggested that lip service in a relationship, where convincing enough, was more important in the happiness in a relationship than being completely honest, because, assuming that my original premise is true, on average this means that the archetypal incompatibility will be exposed, and that doesn't really make for a happy girl, and this won't make for a happy guy either.
Here's a slightly less cynical comment though: It's quite useful for a guy to actually talk to the girl because it will definitely give insight on practical considerations. This is to say you'll be able to better fit your partner into your life. For most of you this will currently mean nothing, but trust me, the idea of living life as a series of social contracts will be an ever-pressing reality in future!
p.s. sex is not an independent factor in any social contract. You'll also come to appreciate, either the easy way, or the hard way, the consequences of sexual relations in a social contract. Your penis may get you into a lot of trouble.

You're not being honest right now. hat do you do when skating, you cross a group of girls? Take you time to answer, try to remember. You work. For money. They are needed to take girls outside. Am I wrong? Of course you can use them for other things, but you cannot tell me in total honesty that you never had the thought.
