Choirs don't make the child do any labour, chores do.

but forcing a child with out ones will to go to a choir could be looked as a mental labor... yes?

Yes, but then he would of said "is forcing a child into a choir...". Also note that he said "choirs" not "choir".

And I stick by what I said. Unless the child is doing a ridiculously large amounts of chores it isn't child labour. Or ridiculously large chores. My parents are divorced so especially at Mum's I have to do a bit of work and it's fine. Doesn't stop me complaining.

Lol, choirs.

Well, chores can't be considered as child labor. Generally, child labor is full-time, regular work, like an adult would have. There is no fixed definiton of child labor, different international organizations have different definition of what is and what isn't child labor.

According to UNICEF...

Child labour.... work that exceeds minimum number of hours, depending on age of child and of type of work. Such is considered harmful to child and should be eliminated.

Ages 5-11: At least 1 hour economic work or 28 hours domestic work.

Ages 12-14: At least 14 hours economic work or 28 hours domestic work.

Ages 15-17: At least 43 hours economic or domestic work.

Figures are per week.

I shortened it somewhat, cutting out the unnecessary parts..

It's really only mental labor, and if you don't want to do it just sing really badly. Or you could try telling your parents you would rather do something else.

hahahaha, in no way shape or form could this be considered child labor, if they got paid and work long hours forcing them to drop out of school, then i could see it as being child labor, but without those aspects, it is not

i agree i just think that allot of kids have a hard time understanding that life isnt super easy all the time... and in order to grow you have to learn to be responsible and understand that we are a working race... also i think allot of kids in more wealthy nations need to understand how good they have it compaired to other nations

Chores? No, they are not child labor. They suck, that's apparent, but you have to earn your keep in the house. You parents don't have to give you anything beyond a toilet to piss in and some food on the table. You don't really need your Xbox or PS3, your computer, books, etc.

So I say no, they are not child labor.

Title fixed.

I don't think they should, unless the parents take some tough work and just label it "chores" to convince their kid it's normal to be doing such things. In which case the child labor probably wouldn't be the biggest issue for the family.

See in my opinion, chores help you learn how to do things you'll have to be able to do when you live alone. Hell, a lot of kids get paid to do their chores; which I think is ridiculous.

Pfft I don't get paid ,I used to get paid but then they stopped it for some reason but pay doesn't worry me since they do provide me with A home , A nice warm bed , heating , food , drinks and a toilet to piss and crap in with chores we are kind of paying them back for all this stuff they provide for us.

My parents don't make me do too many chores just easy ones like clean my room , make my bed , do the dishes and do the washing.
