the act of extinguishing.
2. the fact or condition of being extinguished or extinct.
3. suppression; abolition; annihilation: the extinction of an army.
4. Biology . the act or process of becoming extinct; a coming to an end or dying out: the extinction of a species.
5. Psychology . the reduction or loss of a conditioned response as a result of the absence or withdrawal of reinforcement.
6. Astronomy . the diminution in the intensity of starlight caused by absorption as it passes through the earth's atmosphere or through interstellar dust.
7. Crystallography, Optics . the darkness that results from rotation of a thin section to an angle (extinction angle) at which plane-polarized light is absorbed by the polarizer.

extinction: when no members of a species/subspecies continues to exist.some natural, others not so much. every day, 70 species go extinct, faster than the end of the dinosaurs. it takes a massive apocalypse ( still debated)to kill off the dinosaurs, yet toda it is even faster. how is this possible, and who/ what is to blame???

So every day 70 species go extinct? That must mean that it is very common.

I don't completely understand the point of this thread though.

To blame? Who knows? Humans?.. Most Likely.. Yeah. Lol

Probably microbes, alguae, insects, fungus, etc.. still very sad..
But I've got big news for ya: not all dinosaurs went extinct. Some still live among us

This isn't a problem. There are billions of species, and extinction is natural. I'm surprised it's so low in fact. I would expect it much higher.

I think when we see 70 species we see tigers and stuff going away.

Even insects play a vital role in the Eco-system, the loss of one organism can cause the collapse of an entire environment.

Well in 2006, fifty new species where discovered each day,and there is still millions of species yet to be discovered,so I think where doing pretty good .

So in december 2012 one of those 70 species will be us?

25,550 specied go extinct each year then. That is kind of a big deal.

the species that die away are probably microbs

not necessarily its more of the creatures who have an incredibly small habitat (i.e a species might only be found in a very small area of a forest) making them very vulnerable to predators or humans... which kind of goes into the argument of 'survival of the cutest'
