But seriously, i wont hate on you for not enjoying it, it's just a game made by people who were seriously high( japan has some strong stuff) It's a gateway rpg that gets young-ins into the rpg market.
I think I have Blue, Silver, Diamond, and Soul Silver, but I may have misplaced some of the older ones. The way I see it, Pokemon is just good old fashioned RPG fun, stripped down to the bare essentials, without any of the complexity of titles like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (which I'm also a fan of). Its fun to have an RPG you can just pick up and jump right into, instead of having to commit to for a couple of hours at a time. Plus, I love my DS!

Do you think you dislike the RPG genre or the style of the game more? Personally, I think a lot of people just don't want to be associated with the style of the game, itself. It's kind of like a super-complex game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, haha.
Sapphire and Diamond were really good. You should check out Soul Silver. It has all the UI improvements from Platinum and allows the player to have an easier time getting every pokemon including the original ones.
I have: Red, Blue, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, and Pearl. I used to have FireRed. I also have Pokemon Stadium 1+2 for my N64, and I still play them cause I never gotten around to beating them. I've beaten all the hand-held games though, but haven't succeded in "Catchin Em' All" (though I am really close in Pearl).
