I was just searching through the net, and then I stumbled across this site about Body Modification. I think that if you have to go that far just so you can be happy about your body, or just want to have "body accessories", is just stupid. Like, come on, destroying your own body. For what?

What do you think of this kinda stuff? Right or wrong? Stupid or stupid? Would you ever do this kinda stuff? Why?

The title should be How far would people go? or something along that, long just doesnt seem like the correct word to use.

Any ways.

Body Modifications don't bother me at all, several of my friends have gauges which i believe is a form of body modification. Do i think that there is ever a right or wrong to body modifications? No, it is the persons choose whether or not to go "that far", stupid or not. For most people it's a way to express themselves, or to seperate themselves from the general public. Others do it for religious or spiritual reasons such as the body suspension.
Actually not too long ago, i saw a show where a man was getting surgery to look like satan, his ears were being cut to be pointed, he had implants in his forehead, he had his nose modified to appear like the devil's. Why would anyone do this? let alone WANT to do this.
I would probably get a tattoo on my back, arm(s), or shoulder(s). And yes tattoo's are body modification's.

"Body modification (or body alteration) is the deliberate altering of the human body for non-medical reasons, such as sexual enhancement, a rite of passage, aesthetic reasons, denoting affiliation, trust and loyalty, religious reasons, shock value, and self-expression.[1]. It can range from the socially acceptable decoration (e.g., pierced ears in many societies) to the religiously mandated (e.g., circumcision in a number of cultures), and everywhere in between. Body art is the modification of any part of the human body for spiritual, religious, artistic or aesthetic reasons."

To be happy with your body, I think it just needs to be healthy.
Getting rid of acne is plausible, I guess, but going too far is just...too far.

Have you ever read the history of body modification and tattoos?

We've done this for thousands of years spanning every culture. It's not really something I think should be suppressed. I may not agree with everything someone does, but we have the freedom to treat our bodies as we wish. Even so, some modifications are a religious or cultural thing still: in KingLemon's post we see circumcision.

As far as looking like Satan or a cat or something else with every type of modification out there, people go that far. People will go as far as they want to because, really, there are no man-made laws against it. Society may reject them, but someone that does that is not concerned about societal norms.

I have a tattoo on my lower back (yeah, a 'tramp stamp'. It's a Jesus fish with the reference to my favourite Bible verse. That's probably as much as I'll ever do (or so I say that now). I've had my tongue pierced, my ears have closed up (cartilage done twice), but it was my choice.

Besides, it's improper to be judgmental about someone's God-given free will. God won't shun me for one tattoo, and maybe He's not as uptight as the rest of us anyway. If God doesn't care, why should I? Even so, someone's body modification is their personal business. They aren't interfering in my life or affecting me negatively, so if they want to pay for it and do it, good for them.

So... how far will people go? Very far, mate. Very, very far.

I think it's one of those things where other people's opinions are moot. If a person wants to get so and so pierced and that tattooed and whatever, it's no one's particular business. I admit I find some things odd, or unnecessary, but I think those people who do them don't give a rat's arse about what you think.

Besides, most body modifications are considered almost mainstream nowadays. Notwithstanding that, everyone's allowed to have an opinion be it for or against.

QFT. This exact thing.

Honestly, I'm fine with it. In some cases I do find the specific thing someone's had done immensely impractical (and possibly stupid because of that), but hey, it's their body.

I do not personally support modifying the body to such extremes myself, though other people are free to do so in my book.

You are free to do whatever you want to your body. The benefits and consequences will come. Whatever they are.

Very far.

I admit that I find some of them extremely ugly, however I really don't see anything wrong in this. They can do whatever they like to their body as long as there aren't many health risks.

Your body may be yours, but you cannot hurt your self purposely.

As far as they wish, when you want something, you will do anything to grab hold it of.

Look at twilight, when the movie hit the scenes, I've known a few people who have gone and got there teeth carved like vampire fangs, or who have gone and done some alternative tattoos, to fit in with their idols, or how they want to represent themselves.

Everyone has that ideal selves.

Some people such as myself, i'm happy with my body, how i see my ideal self is just the clothes i wear on my back, going more in to Italian tailored jackets, shirts, trousers and shoes, my body i'm happy with i can't complain.

Then others see themselves as another worldly being, they see themselves as actors and actresses on the big screen, they want to be who they idolize, because that's how they feel about themselves, the mind is confusing, how people adjust to what they want and start living a new life, which ends up with the modifications they get, aiming more at the twilight fans really, how i know girls who look for guys who like biting, these girls have customized vampire fangs, its all one long chain. And most of the time, it all starts off in our dreams.

Nothing wrong with Body modification/alteration though, and you should not judge people on how they look. It's morally wrong, we are all human and we all are different, in this day and age more and more people want to look like each other, so kudos to the people who take it to the next level to stand out from the crowd and want to be who they set out to be, not who they have to be to just fit in.

Really it is a purely individual choice. No one has the right to tell another person what they may and may not do with their bodies. I personally have many tattoos and previously had many piercings as well, but found them more impractical as I got older, so I don't have them anymore. I have experimented with suspension and other such things simply out of curiosity. The only real issue I have with body modification is that we live in a society where people may be shunned or ridiculed because of their choice of expression, especially when body modification like this dates back to our earliest days as a semi civilized animal.

Uh, ever heard of suicide?
There may be body modifications that are deemed so risky that you won't be able to find someone else that will be willing to do it to you, but then... You can always get hold of the tools and try to do it on your own (probably won't end well, but you can do it).

Yeah I like this one. Sure, it's your body, but I'm going to tell you what you can and can't do with it.... what BS. Don't people have more important things to do than go about telling everyone else what they should and shouldn't do with themselves??

What would you do if anyone close decided too do a body modification of this scale (not tattoos and simple piercings)? Family or friends?
