I completely disagree with the group, (one of the rare times me and dave cameron agree i must say) but i dont think it should be taken down. I like the voltaire 'i detest what you say but will defend to your death your right to say it' sentiment. There was a lot of controversy about his death, and how the police handled it all, so its not surprising some idiots started a group like this.
Facebook already stated they won't take down a group or page unless it violates their terms. My opinion is that it really doesn't matter much either way.
I think the group is awesome and should not be taken down. Not because I support Raoul Moat but because I am against taking away freedom of speech and expression.
I am not one for violence. I am however one for vengeance; and will always dig two graves whenever i set out on my course to gain vengeance. One for the enemy & one for myself.
What this man did i would not give praise too, but this is what love can do, this i how powerful love really is, if it ever happened between myself and my fiance, i really cannot see myself bringing harm to her, as if you love someone enough, you will set them free. However, that does not mean i choose to love a guy she leaves me for, which will never happen. I'm not the bog standard guy you find just laying around. She and I both know what we have, and won't let go, certainly with kids in the picture.
The Facebook group somewhat over exagerattes on what this man did, but think of all those men and indeed women who sell there heart and soul to the one they want to spend the rest of their lives with, to find for example their best friend in bed with who they considered to be 'the one'. Raul, solved the matter, as undiplomatic as it was.
One should not judge, until one has lived a single day in that persons shoes.
Love is no excuse for murder, and no matter what the motivation, him killing innocents doesnt make him a 'legend'. No i cant say ive ever experienced what moat did, but i still think its fair to condemn his actions. He killed a man, seriously injured another, and nearly killed his ex too. Whatever was going through his head, its inexcusable behaviour.
what about allied world war 2 solders who slaughtered thousands of German civilians.
I dont think anyone calls soldiers who were proven to have killed innocent civilians 'legends'. Besides, the germans killed millions of europeans in that war. Two rights dont make a wrong, but you can definitely see what so many german civilians were killed, especially by the russians whod had much worse done to them.
When I look at the person that was Raoul Moat, I do not see a 'legend' I see a man. A man that was constantly pushed and pulled around his whole life. A man that walked the wrong paths and ended up at a dead end. I despise that which Raoul Moat became and weep for that which he could have been. In all fairness to the man, Samantha Stobbart (his girlfriend) lied to him and told him that she was going out with a policeman. Can you imagine the effect this would have on somebody who was put in a prison? Who saw the police as the people that had harmed him most. I don't pretend to like Raoul Moat but I can pity him.
I disagree with the group's beliefs but I support their right to speak their opinion on the matter. I believe people have the right to speak freely about any topic they wish and to hold any opinion on any topic they wish. They have a right to their opinion and to voice their opinion, and to that degree and to that degree alone I support their right to have this facebook page.
Obviously Raoul Moat IS a legend. He's all over the news, Facebook, and even a thread on a gaming site. Guy seems like a legend to me, his actions notwithstanding. It is people like the one that made this thread that are making him a legend. So he freaked out, had a massive 'roid rage and shot a couple people then killed himself. Sadly it's not uncommon. The only thing making him famous is the media and people that start debates like this drawing attention to him.
I think that they're crazy, and that murdering a couple people because you're crazy yourself, and take love to a primeval level, is great, is insane. However, they have a right to free speech. So long as they don't cause emotional or psychological harm to anyone, they're fine. We might think they're crazy, but they aren't going to what ever precinct of police and messing with them over it.
If they are, wow. They need serious help before they themselves kill someone.
I am however one for vengeance; and will always dig two graves whenever i set out on my course to gain vengeance. One for the enemy & one for myself.
