In a purely opinion based contest, gotta say Rock is the champion. There's a lot more classic rock songs that everyone knows than there are country songs. So by popularity, Rock wins again.

Yeah I'll have to apologize about that Greenday remark. Just so happened I had a punk rock conversation a few days prior and I got a little off topic there blowing off some steam. There are a few really great country songs that where brilliantly put together, but there is just way to many more rock songs, especially considering how wide the genre of rock can go and how limited country can be differentiated. So rock versus country really isn't fair to began with. There are some Johnny Cash songs for instance that are clearly country but can be found placed with rock. So I find that a lot of country can be rock but not a lot of rock can be country. There fore country cannot win this debate.
