ok, i was reading in a thread about how it is okay to bump threads if you actually contribute. What i want to know is, for a thread to be "necro" or whatever its called, how old does it have to be?

Like is their a limit to how old a thread i can post in? i know not to go back 2 years and post, but just asking.

Basically it should be your own opinion.

There is really no limit. Just try not to go to a thread at the last page.

You shouldn't bump threads unless you have something great to say. If you´re simply giving your opinion, don´t bump it. If you give a 12 paragraph story for example on the subject... that´s different. Quite like Leo did, there´s no limit, but you should think carefully when bumping dead threads.

Why thinm carefully? In a fast forum like the forum games it would be a day or two before it will be in the 3rd page of the forum. Another stupid thread makes no change.

There are different opinions on it. Mine is that thread revival, as long as it is done properly, is tolerated. There is no limit, there really is none. However, you ought to be selective when reviving a thread. Can't just go around reviving threads like crazy, even if you aren't just saying "bump". Also, never bump threads just to bring them to the front page. A contribution is necessary.

Though, I believe the Forum Games section is more of an exception. Everything gets pushed back and there's little harm in reviving things there. Seeing as many of the good forum games are buried by other rubbish, some of which are repeats of the old forum games.

If you're doing it for the points, it will be locked as a (mass) necro. If your post contains no meaningful content or does not add to the thread topic it will be locked as a necro. If you bring back a thread that is no longer relevant, regardless of the content, it will be locked as a necro.

Froum Games don't die, except for hosted RPGs or other limited membership games.
AMW threads die with the OP unless it's a general thread, i.e. if so-and-so has a thread made specifically for his/her works but so-and-so is no longer active, do not post there.

Exercise caution when bringing anything back in the WEPR and Tavern, especially if there is already a more recent thread on the same topic.
Thread should generally never be brought back in the S&S and Newcomers.

What!? No one cares about Programming, Video games, Game walkthroughs and flash games.

I'm appalled.

Anyways Gantic summed it up in basically the only way you can. Certain times you have to actually think about these threads that you "Revive" or "Necro"

Honestly it is rarely done, I honestly tend to not do it. Knight is probably one of the few that I have seen give a good "revive"

You shouldn't really have to necro anyways.
If the thread is 2 years old you can just make a new one, no harm done.

I would also be interested how/why you searched that far into the forum's past.

No one really necroes there because there aren't too many users there, the ones who do go are generally clean-user developers, and there's very little reason to necro something there except to spam (Then the topic gets locked and the spam deleted).

Gantic pretty much answered this thread, why is it still open? Unless someone wants to ask more refined questions...
