They were trying to provoke an action and got it. People always look for a way to bash Israel and this was a blatant example of that. They weren't there to help the people of Gaza, it was just a publicity stunt that riled up a lot people who're against the blockade on gaza(who are kinda right) and pretty much everything else Israel does.
If they were truly there to help, they would have just went through the channels that Israel and Egypt already set up for aid shipments and also could have made sure the medicine and supplies were "fresh"
