It is a form of communication. And 'moo' is the onomatopoeia that we attribute to the sound.

Do you think that the other animals cannot really hear what we say [apart from the parrot] as we cannot hear what they are really saying...


Don't animals relate to pitches rather than words?
So they understand a pitch after a while and respond to it if they hear it enough, like calling a cat by its name.. or teaching a dog commands

This thread is really useles.. you could also say why do cats miauw, well because that's their way of communication! that's also why dogs bark and why people talk....

I've read stuff about how speakers of different languages perceive onomatopoeia of animals differently.
