To me, the best movie with the least special effects was paranormal activity. If you can do better post it.

I believe Memento had zero special effects. That is one helluva movie. Editing techniques do not count as special effects. (Hence the backwards sequence is fine).

Personally I don't agree, I didn't like it all that much.

But, for others and the publicity - hell yes it was.
Very high rating and publicity, and its budget was $17,000 if I remember correctly. Half of that was probably put into the camera lol >.>

In any case, I truely don't know. Nor do I have an intention of finding out (for various reasons) :P
Have fun people, hope you do

The Fox and the Child. It made me cry so much but it is such a lovely film.

Napoleon Dynamite. That movie had no special effects whatsoever.

That I have to agree with. According to the Wikipedia article on it, it had a budget of 400k, and apparently made 46 million at this point, and was apparently based off of a earlier short film that had a $500 budget. Outside of that I can say that I found it to be funny, and original unlike much of what comes out of Hollywood nowadays, which is probably what helped it garner so much success to begin with.

Paranormal activity was a truly horrible film, how can you even say that? you must have just watched it when you made that post.

I think Napoleon Dynamite is also up there that movie is hilarious, I don't love the big label, famous actor movies, but indie films rock!

Didn't the same director direct Nacho Libre, which came out two months later?

Or am I just imagining things...again...?
