how do threads become locked
Moderators and/or Administrators have the powurrs to lock threads. Usually because someone necro't it, the question got answered, or got too spammy. There's a bunch of other reasons, but you'll have to ask a Mod/Admin.
Too much flaming, going off topic, duplicate threads etc.
