Even if we are considering Ebonics as an actual language rather then just slang and the bastardization of English. Wouldn't the time and resources be better spent teaching English, given this it's the language that is predominant in this country? What's to be gained by teaching a new exotic language with no practical applications? It appears as if it's only function is to further a divide between cultures that should instead be closing and should have closed long ago.

You guys will be better off learning chinese and spanish. lololololol. It's funny because it's true. But in all seriousness, I actually kind of agree with you, better off teaching the version that is already on the books than this new bullshit.
Because it wasn about teaching it in schools. The FBI is looking for experts in "ebonics" (as well as 100 something other languages/dialects) so that they will know what black drug dealers are talking about over the phone. Because apparently the FBI is intelligent enough to set up thousands of phone taps, but has never heard of urban dictionary.
