Already, it has been filled with controversy - such as one of the Popes senior advisers referring to the UK as a 'third-world country' that is full of 'aggressive atheism'.
Further controversy has surrounded the cost to the country itself for the Popes visit.
Even more controversy is piled up because of the sexual abuse of minors at the hands of a number of Catholic Priests - covered up at the time - and the refusal of a real apology for the horrible suffering of these children.
To sum up: Do you think the Popes visit is a good idea? Is the timing right or wrong? Should he issue an apology to the UK victims of abuse at the hands of Catholic Priests? Should the UK foot the bill for the Popes visit?
Heck no If the pope feels like he should visit England then he can do it with his money.

I don't see how England is a third world country. I don't know if England is full of aggressive atheists but I suppose you would.
What are your views on this supposedly 'historic' event?
Historic? I guess it could be seen as historic for the pope to visit England. The popes haven't done that in a while since the English kicked the catholic church out right?
Even more controversy is piled up because of the sexual abuse of minors at the hands of a number of Catholic Priests - covered up at the time - and the refusal of a real apology for the horrible suffering of these children.
Maybe he will do that when he get's there. Maybe he thinks he doesn't owes you an apology.

And this is called a senior [i]adviser[/i? Oh my...

I believe this is some kind of courtesy towards the pope, probably usual for a land to finance a pope's sojourn. You know, 'oliteness' between official instances, sumthing like that. But I agree with holt there:

And what for the historic event.. like you said Avorne, it's 'historic' for every newspaper, but really, visiting other countries is practically the pope's main occupation so I don't see how this should be really historical. Unless something happens, like
someone will try to assaninate him and that's why England invited him. .Conspiracy.
I'm really confused as to why someone would call the United Kingdom a third world country. The UK was the first industrialized world power, the first to gain what we refer to the modern era and general an economic power house since the 1700's.
Next why should the Brits pay for the Pope especially when The Vatican has more money than they know what to do with?
Oh and the Catholic Church can burn for all I care, they should apologize for a whole lot of shit but hey god says it's okay right?
I guess that explains why I stopped hearing about it.
Ok so without that going on, I still think the pope is making the wrong choice by going to the UK. After all that has happened, the insult and the harassment/abuse, I think he should be staying away from places that have spoken out against him.
Who the hell cares if the Pope visits anyway? If I wanted to see an old man in a robe I'd watch Star Wars. He can work off the bill in foot locker or something, why should we pay for him?
