ok, i just got a steam account, and it hit me, i don't know what games are good, the darn forums i cant navigate, because lets face it, ag has the best. so, i kinda wanted to know from some more experienced steam members, where do i start? how good is the messaging system? what multiplayer games are worth buying? and... who wants to be my fwend??
I use Steam and these are the games that i have played and enjoyed: Gary's Mod, Half-Life 1 and 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, but sometimes its real buggy or laggy. But my all time favorite is Gary's Mod because it offers hours of experimenting and entertainment, high replay value and all around amusement.
Well I don't think you could go wrong with the new Halo Reach!
Recommending a 360-exclusive game on a thread discussing PC software? Good one, genius.
how good is the messaging system?
The messaging system is pretty simplistic if you use things like MSN. You could compare it to Xfire or Google Talk. It also has a VOIP system, but there's really no use in it as Steam is crap at getting the microphones to sound good.
what multiplayer games are worth buying?
Anything that grabs your eye and is on offer. FPS bundles are amazing. If you're into strategies I'd recommend Starcraft or Civilization. The Steam store has pages and pages devoted to different genres so you shouldn't have trouble digging something up.
I'd also recommend games by Valve. I've played few of them but they get extremely high ratings and Valve are also the people that make Steam, so you can get direct support for your game. Half Life series is rated as the best shooter ever, Team Fortress 2 is just for insane people to play with the construction set as far as I've seen, Portal is a very funny puzzle game and Alien Swarm is a free third-person shooter made by the guys that made Unreal Tournament *gasp*.
Half life package is cheap and very good. Battlefield series is also very good. Team Fortress 2. L4D2. I like steam personally. It is very good for speaking to people in games and such but it get kind of annoying if you get a game, install it and it gets registered on your steam, because it makes it a mission to be able to uninstall and put it on another CPU without it saying "Game does not belong to this client" or whatever:L
Steam works quiet well, except for the mass of updates. I would say u should get Alien Swarm. Its for free, team based, survival shooter. Its very good in my opinion ;D
