It is a greek letter. Everything mathematical comes from either Arabic, Greek, or Chinese... or other people.

By definition, pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is always the same number, no matter which circle you use to compute it.
Pi is approximatly 3.14159

The Babylonians and the Aegyptians knew the existance of the constant ratio pi.

Pi gets its name from the Greek words for periphery and perimeter, which both begin with the letter &quoti".
