I'm not a man of Cinema, although I can admittedly qualify some films masterpieces. The purpose of this thread, though, is to honorate music videos, which have earned themselves a rightful place among the blend of medias we call ''art'' today.
I want you all to post music videos that you consider to be art. Please post them one by one, as I don't want to see posts overwhelmed by links. We're not in a hurry; let us appreciate these little cinematic pieces!
Of course, I don't intend to see clips of band playing their songs; the goal of this thread is to discover visual experiences that will make us think, ponder and cogitate. For me an intelligent clip is either one of incredible visual achievement or one of intellectual depthness.
That was awesome. I hadn't seen that clip before. I don't really know what to say about it. I love the cinematics, they remind me of 'The day the earth stood still'. The original version obviously.
That's what's genuinely brilliant about it. I like the directin this thread is going, and I hope we'll amass a decent collection of remarkable musical video.
Zoark, I knew about Gotye, but I had never seen a clip of him before. It's quite a perplexing thing to watch.
Since I want this thread to have some success, let's put another submission right away. Now let's go for something a little less intrinsically philosophic; a magnifient feat of technicality, an amazing song and a man with love for big hats. Plus, Jay Kay just knows how to move.
Virtual Insanity huh? Well I liked the use of the cuts between scenes making it look like one long take. Was there meant to be a story behind it? I couldn't figure out a lot of the symbolic references, unless it was just designed to look cool.
Basement Jaxx, Where's your head at. I'm bringing back the philosophical debate and starting an ethical trend.
I think virtual insanity was mainly just show off, but it's why I posted it here; there's something in the video that's incredibly mysterious from the moving effect; is it the walls, the floor, how did they achieve such a feat!?
ANyhow, regarding that last post, I think I had nightmares about that as a kid. It's not just about using animals for research but humans too, which is quite a controversial perspective. Did you think they were implying we're not much more than what we were millions of years ago; animals? Of course we are animals, I know, but you get the point.
Another hard to conceive clip is The Denial Twist by The White Stripes. Movement and lenses smack me about the face.
I think they were implying many things. Possibilities include: ethical testing on animals, evolutionist theory, your suggestion that we haven't progressed emotionally as far as we believe. Did I get the point?
I suggest we haven't progressed as much as we believe. Be it on the ethical, moral or emotionnal plane.
Here's a video fitting the ethical trend set up by Zoark. Directed by the late Heath Ledger, which we all remember as a remarkable Joker, here's King Rat, by Modest Mouse.
I am totally necroing this old thread of mine because I think it would have much, much more to offer if people dared search and submit intelligent videos. Images are a fantastic way of conveying a message because they are not an imposition, an order, but rather a suggestion, fleeting options; they slowly make their way to the deepest parts of the brain, where they macerate and finally change us into different, grown up persons.
I think Music videos have the power to amplifiy the message of a song so much it can become a life changing experience.
And since I don't want to necro without a good reason, here's an amazing music video that should be praised for its visual prowesses. It just goes to show how the simple things can be the best, with some imagination . My favorite part is at 3:28. Just look at the cam guy's lips haha...
That was a distracting video; thanks for posting it here. It was getting kind of awkward with only me and Zoark. Another fantastic video coming right up; this one's mostly visually impressive, rather than philosophical; then again, almost all Ok go videos are right?
