About three years ago, when we had phylosophy in school, the teacher asked us a question (well he always asked questions X) but I'm thinking of a particular one now). I had to think about it lately and wanted to know what you would answer.
So the question is:

If there was a book that contained the story of your life, would you open it and read it?

Accessory question: do you think such a book could even exist without contradictions? (Purely hypothetically of course)
(I have already my set opinion on the matter but I will only advance it when some people have already posted.)

Hmm... I've seen a similar concept to this in the Discworld novels. Anyway, I don't know if I would read it - wouldn't reading it create some kind of loop? Assuming it wrote itself as you went along then as soon as you started reading it then you'd see "X is reading this text is reading this text is reading this text etc". Also, is it split into separate volumes or just one big book? Because that is gonna be one Big-arse book.

I remember taking a philosophy course in my University and found out it was the most boring useless course I've had to endure in my entire life. I've learned more logic in my Discrete mathematics courses.

Well if they book is dynamic and your dynamic by reading it would you not change who you are therefore changing the book?

Also a story of your life sounds almost like a biography.

Yeah I expected such an answer. But don't you think your life would get boring? No thrill of the unknown anymore, nothing new to come, ever?

I suppose so, a loop would be the consequence if it would write itself in realtime. But I personally thought of the book as a complete story containing the truth about your whole life. And that's where it starts to get interesting: In my opinion, reading it would create a new truth (let's call it story) since the book would have to adapt to you reading it. But that new story would be based on the old story written before you read it; the one that didn't take into account that you would read it. Thus you get two different stories, one basing on the other but both supposed to be true. And that repeats everytime you read a sentence of the book.

I would love to read the book of my life. I don't think that it would create a 'aradox' of sorts.

I wouldn't want to read the book of my life, because for the rest of it, I would be rather unenthusiastic, because I already know what's going to happen. Also, I would find out how I would die, which takes away all curiosity, and would cause much anxiety, and I would always be second guessing myself. Also, would the book of life state that I had read the book of life?

Let's suppose a person decided to read the Book of Life. This person read the whole past part, until now its ok. But then this person read the future part and refused to do what was written, that's why the existence of the Book of Life would be impossible, unless it only showed the past and present, and not the future.

I think this is because even if it would state that you had read it, this would mean it would have to change while you read it, but still contain the old story. Because both are supposed to be true this won't work.

if i read it, i know what happens. then i can change my own future. or i dont read it and continue lifing.

if the book writes itself in realtime while im reading it, then it can be couse a loop. or it is from the future, writed by a pc or myself and sended back in time to me, but gives it then a paradox if i try to change the future? what if i vorget to write the book or the pc write it never? i dont know.

the only thing i know is that like to read books. but before i read the book: the book of life i read its back side and decide then, to read it or not to read it.
