...why do you need black powder?

Hmm I think you better wait for some more in depth replies or something before smashing a bullet with a hammer.. doesn't seem safe to me, but what do I know.

well, regardless of why you are doing this, i really don't think it will end too well just considering the fact that you need the powder to begin with. that being said, i might as well try to make it a little safer by suggesting that you use a flat head screwdriver to try to pry the plastic end folds up (opposite of the metal primer), then dumping out the contents. if that does not work, use a small blade (Xacto knife/boxcutter or small saw) to saw into the plastic (also opposite end of the metal primer) and then dump the contents out after cutting part of the way through the shell, then slowly tearing off the rest of the plastic. be careful of slicing/cutting/sawing into the shot (ball bearings) specifically, as that will make cutting difficult and/or dull the blade. try cutting around the plastic encasing to avoid this. DO NOT USE A HAMMER. these guys are just trolling, and unless you yourself are a troll or just incompetent, do not listen to them. it will, in fact go "BOOOOOOOOOM" as said by Asherlee. hope i helped.

its easier to buy the black powder but the best way to do it would be to remove it from the oposite side of the primer

1. Bullets do not have alot of black powder. Your gonna be breaking open alot of shells depending on what your doing.

2. Hitting it with a hammer will not make it blow up. If you hit the small circular peice on the primer (trying to not use names so you know what I'm talking about) in the center, it will go boom, but due to the fact you have no barrel or anything, your not gonna get much of a death shot. So don't worry about doing that.

3. The ends unfold, when you fire it, the black powder shots the Pellets out of the end and unfold it. I would suggest unfolding it, and dumping it into a plastic bag, then pulling the pellets off. Reapeat untill you have as much powder as you want.

You act as if you don't need to use caution when dealing with a live shell. even thought it might not be a killshot, the pellets would still come out with enough force to potentially be fatal.

Well, first it's shotgun.

Second, to open it, find the opening, tap the back with a hammer, if it doesn't work, hit it harder, than it'll come out.
