Is this a glitch? or was this programmed into the game?
Basically if the enemy's command center is destroyed, but he still has air units around, your ground units will start shooting at the air. I gotta admit, it's pretty cool seeing hovers attack phantoms, but I keep wondering if this is a glitch or not.
I don't think it's a glitch that the game isn't over when units are still around, but there are some glitchy things that happen because of it. Sometimes, your teammate will be able to control your units, and sometimes the unit selection becomes completely messed up. I think when you press charge, it tells your units to target whatever would make you win. Usually that would be the base, but if the base is down, it's the units they go after, and it then forces tanks to shoot air, etc. Sakatas won't shoot ground though, because of a much earlier glitch that involved sakata charging to make them shoot the base. Oh, those were marvelous times.
Known for a loooooong time. Depends on your interpretation--it's a disadvantage for defender (game's SUPPOSED to be over when base dies), a last chance counter with units left, etc. I personally am OK with it, some people aren't though.
What seems to me is that each unit is assigned to be the "base" when it goes down, and won't move/respond to commands. When it dies, it hops to another unit...till none are left, and there is no "base" left. This is just from my observations.
Me and firetail I think did a mod of this glitch, with charging while under attack by air units. Marine rockets really damage the base...so do BQ AtA rockets vs base and ground.
Combine the two, you get really funny stuff (pretty sure you could set up marine rockets vs hovers)
I have seen that somethimes when I charge hovers they fire air, when attacking the base...
It's not a glitch, it's part of the game.
I used to say it's part of the game, but now, in my opinion, it should be a glitch because hover tanks shouldn't fire at phantoms. That's what anti-air sakata Mk-lls are there for. So let's say you only have phantoms and hover tanks, you destroy the enemy's base, and your enemy has scouts on the field firing at the phantoms and hover tanks. Should you get anti air units, or should you have the hover tanks and phantoms charge at them?
My answer is to get anti air because only noobs would do that when they only depend on the charge glitch.
