I don't get it.

What's the difference???

When you predict something, you state what you think is going to happen. When you infer, you come to a conclusion about something by researching/looking at resources that are already fact.

For example, you could predict that you have a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of winning the lottery tomorrow, but you couldn't infer that because it is not yet a fact.

Is that what you meant?
