i think Gothic 3 is underrated, only because everyone i talk to has never heard of it till i showed it to them and its really good
I hated Gothic 3, but Gothic 2 is pure awesomeness, even if it's a bit buggy.
I'd like to nominate Freelancer. It might just be that I was too young when it was new, as it was released 2003, and I didn't notice the hype, but I'd say it deserved a lot more attention than it got. A sequel would be great.
Shadow of the Collosus for PS2. The game is well known (or should be), but it breaks away from most traditional adventure games and some people don't see the real value in the game. Sure the fights are on an epic scale, but what really hits me is how peaceful and well developed the world around the character is. Personally it's my favourite PS2 game
A really good underrated game was Brutal Legend. "I wasn't expecting an RTS" my ass. it's a beautiful game, beautiful soundtrack, its fun as hell, and you carry a giant axe killing things and then a guitar that you play and when you play it you either electrocute things or kill them with fire.
you can kill a demon by playing your guitar and burning it. BY PLAYING A GUITAR.

The Uncharted series in not under-rated. It has a very devout cult following and received critical acclaim. Your friends may talk about Call of Duty 6 and Halo, much like many "contemporary" gamers, but that does not account for the entire gaming community.

Halo ODST and Call of Duty 6 were released on the Xbox 360 platform which surpasses the PS3 in number of units sold by about five million. Call of Duty 6 also managed to spread to the PC, where it would have got additional votes. Meanwhile, Uncharted 2 is a PS3 exclusive and not as many people will have played it.
Maybe it's not played as much as it should be, but it's not under-rated.
