and some background information on the major races to pick from ( read at least the end part of each for playability or not):
Nozrek: a slave race, they are the main slave people of preference to all major galactic races. originating from a planet that would later be destroyed during an unrelated war, every single one of them was abducted by prospective traders and sold off to the corners of the galaxy. now much more modernized than when hey were abducted, they highly resent their masters and in a few cases have taken over small moon bases+outposts. not recommended playthrough Zhykon: A bigger race, they are not the smartest, but are quite fierce and naturally are nimble and strong. Good for pirating and for guards. Beware their custom weapons and their less than noble tactics in space nor in combat. Very ugly by most standards. They are very similar to Humans, just much bigger and different skin color ( black-orangish). Most native planets ( where they solely dominate it) are barbarian, with little law or control, so it can be quite difficult to even find a dealer alive, but the lack of laws enables for some pretty BA stuff to be sold for a price. Ships appear very scrappy and crude, but really they have developed very efficient engines and weaponry, making them a deadly threat. Rukyan * ruk- yan*: Very intelligent, they create the best ships around these parts and can be very good spies, though most aren't. excellent as Navigators, engineers and other intelligence-orientated jobs, but as an enemy steer clear in space, they will blow you apart, and are very suspicious of foreigners ( including unreasonable prices for their ships). Also very Narcissistic and Nitrogen-breathing , making their skin a bluish color and a reptilian appearance. Native planets are very high-tech and cilivzed, with massive towers and platforms rising into the clouds ( think KotR), and if you aren't dressed like them then good luck finding a legit dealer, they are extremely suspicious of foreigners especially on their own planets. Very weak in natural strength though. Rahznok:Very pacifist if it wasn't for the threat of pirates and other foreign threats they would never even think of having weapons on their ships. Ironically, they completely overkill their hips and selves with all kinds of nasty weapons, though their armor needs some serious work. Appear like a Martian ( white-tan skin, massive head, etc.), they specialize in plasma and explosive weapons. Best Life Support Systems and highly trained crewmen.
The Mind: A robotic, race, they started out biologically sound and eventually through technology and zeal turned themselves into Robots... now all but the The Great Council have close to no conscious, and they serve as the tools of The Council. Very Very deadly and efficient troops/ships, extremely vulnerable to EMP's. ( like the terminators from Terminator:salvation) More knowledge required. UNPLAYABLE
Human ( The Federation): Your basic human. There are many factions ( You don't start as a faction though, here are some of the better known factions):
Merchants United: Made up of Traders looking for protection and the best prices, with a few shady figures here and there, they make up most of the human traders. Due to very close rings of traders, they relay their info to other groups of prices, products and demands in different areas, giving this faction a huge advantage over any other types of traders. Their space outposts also come equipped with Free Engine repairs and optional Cargo Bay expansions ( priced), and free food, lodging, and fully stocked cantina to any members, though it is still available to non-members for a price. Very good faction for n00bs or beginning players trying to make it big. ( note: membership requires a sizable fee, 2 recommendations from current members, and at least a bit of reputation)
Nobâs Raiders: The main pirate faction, they are extremely agro and very very large. Ruled by a shady figure called âNobâ, not really anyone is sure who he (or she?) is, though whenever he is present it is very obvious. Other than that, little is known to a commoner unless you joined them or got in contact with a law enforcement group.
Lawbringers: Originally created to help maintain order and peace to the then chaotic space, they have barely helped anything by this point and now suffers from severe corruption, although there are actually a few good lawbringers who do their job right. ( Creds: Hypermnestra )
