First off its Afghanistan, and the war is against terror so we can't really sign a big peace treaty.

Treaty? With Who? The US allied with any country they occupie. If we don't handle the issue now, it will only get worse. Plus the US presence in the MiddleEast is a intimidation to Iran and other nations on the UN Watchlist.

If we just give up all those lives will be lost for nothing, we should not leave Afghanistan until the government is stable and even then we will continue to act as a big brother and provide overwatch.

The US acts as a "Big brother" as you say, to almost every nation thats not comunist, ran by a dictator, or who one who is in anarchy. Think of Israel, if the US were not to back us, we would be at war everyday.

But a stable government and a loyal military/police force is needed in the two countries.

Interesting thread so far. I'm going to keep an eye on this one and put my 2 cents in later. Those of you who know me will probably understand why I'm waiting this one out for a bit.

Where is this thread going? The creator didn't even know what he was talking about, now Australia pops up into conversation? MRWalker82, you might as well go ahead and put in your 2 cents.

Australia plays a small role in this war, but we are there to help not to "apply pressure" to the middle east.

Actually the Australian forces have been substantial since the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, and they continue to maintain a strong presence in the region. I am unsure of their involvement in Afghanistan, but I would wager it is probably on par with their efforts in Iraq.

Im not saying your not there to help. But having a large UN force keeps the big players in the region under control. A Middle Eastern conflict is a possibility. With Iran, Syria, and The tension between Israel and other counties it is a dangerous prospect.
