Any tips on getting a board? I know that I obviously have to physically try out a board before buying, but i wanna do a lot of research to find out what type of board would be easy to get into, and what to expect as far as prices go when i get into a skate shop so i don't feel completely incompetent lol. i'd be using it mostly for transportation and just chilling out riding around, not too concerned about ticks. my neighborhood has a variety of hilly streets, but any place in town has very long and easy downhill streets that aren't steep at all, so it looks pretty nice for boarding as far as i kno. I want a board that's relatively low cost, but at the same time i don't want a "beginner's board" because i hear they are actually complete crap and end up deterring newbies from continuing boarding.... any tips on length, varieties, brands and cost? P.S. This is he vid that inspired me to start up, eve though i kno i wont be able to do stuf like that for a while if i could even find a location like this, but hey, i can dream...
well, don't worry about what kind you get, as tricks are almost undoable on a longboards. Just go in and ask. Tell him you skate but want a longboard just to chill with. Tehy will undersatnd.
ya the hardest thing youll be doing on a longboard is carving a turn.
dude i got all your sweet hook ups right here. ive been longboarding for about 2 years now and its totally worth the buy. a good begginer longboard should cost around 130 to 180 dollers. and if you want an expert board it wouldnt cost much more then that.
heres a couple pictures
good begginer longboard
good expert longboard
brands on longboards are pretty... rare. there is no major lable brand really. if your from colorado id suggest K9 Boards there local here and make some of the best snowbaords and long boards around.
id suggest craigs list dude. for reals...
but ya one of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU NEED TO GET is GLOVES.
your going to be putting your hands on the ground alot when you start really getting into longboarding and im sure you dont want to ruin and cut your hands to oblivion.
if your carving turns, make sure you have loser trucks, cause otherwise it dont work that well and youll jsut hurt your hip. but if your just riding and chilling you shouldnt really need to carve much.
thx guys and lol yeah i picked up on the glove idea, especially when i first start hitting any hills i can imagine im gonna use my hands a lot till i get the hang of it. btw i'm 5'10" 160lbs and i have a size 9 foot (my entire fam has small feet) so i guess that may narrow down board shape and length(?) yeah im not gonna worry bout carvin or anything more than just floating around town. also the reason i'm askin for the help is cos there really aren't that many skate shops around, and from what my friends tell me they really only kno about regular skateboards, not so much about longboards
no dont narrow the board 0_o i dont think they even sell them like that. go with like a 36 inch. mines a 42 but i were size 15 shoes so thats why. but a 36 should be perfect for your feet.
dude if there is a zumies anywere where you live they should sell them there, again dude craigs list is the way to go when it comes to logboards, cause if there are any local companies then craigs list is were youll find them.
lol dude by "narrow down" i meant the search 4 the board not the board itself haha im not that thick in the brain! thnx 4 the heads up about zumies, there's one in a nearby mall ive never been in it tho
