I find the google instant search more of a pain than a convenience.

When I used it I found myself clicking the wrong links (because the pages is changing as I type) and I couldn't use copy and paste shortcuts.

Even when you turn it off it still is troublesome because if you ever clear your cookies you have to turn of google instant again.

What are your thoughts on google instant search?

Web browsers and the internet have already become pretty instant.

For the most part you don't have to type in the "http://" and "www." any more in the URL and most text boxes you come across have an auto fill. What happened to the good old days? jk

I love Google instant, personally, because I can often see the answer to what I'm searching for without having to do a search. If I can see that what I'm trying to type isn't getting me a result I want, I haven't wasted time trying to do a million searches on it to find the right keyword.

What? I'm not talking about the drop down box that appears when you type. I'm talking about Google instant, when the whole page displays different results each type you enter a character.

I don't quite understand what your saying? What your trying to type will never get you the right result because you doing a search on something you have typed correctly. If want to do a search on "hippos" and all I type in is "hip" I'm going to see all sorts of results for hips, hip surgery, how to be hip, etc. I have to type in the full word "hippo" to get the result I want. I should just give up at "hip", which it what it sounds like your saying.

It still doesn't work for me, it never has lol
So I guess I'm good with not having it, but it seems like a pretty cool idea

It is quite bothersome.. I'd prefer if it just would stick with static page and suggest on the dropdown.

I don't use the search engine directly much because I use Chromium; I can just type into the address bar.

I will keep the instant feature permanently off. I love control.

Don't usually use it, because when I go to Google, it automatically redirects me to Google Canada.

Google Canada doesn't have instant on it, so I don't have to deal with it.

And as Graham said I usually just type whatever I want to search into Chrome's omnibar.

Get Mozilla Firefox and use the search bar in the top right corner of your window, next to the address, and you'll never have to go to Google until after the search is made anyways.

Oh, and also, http://www.google.com/firefox doesn't have Instant Search.

I never thought of doing that. I should give it a try. Bing also doesn't have the Google instant search (but secretly it wants to be Google).

Pretty sure you can do that in any browser these days, anyways...

I remember a time when Google toolbar was loaded with spyware. I think it still is considered to have elements similar to spyware. A reason to use Mozilla and not use the toolbar. But, yeah you can get Google search bars into any browser nowadays.
